42" samsung plasma or 60" sony LCD rear projection?
Right now we have a 50" old school big screen and my dads says he cant see it too well.
He really wants the 60" LCD rear projection because its bigger than the one we have. Only thing is I dont like it because its not a flat panel, its like 2 feet wide from the side
I kind of want the plasma, its only a 42" but I personally think it looks a lot nicer than having this huge big thing
The quality on the lcd vs plasma is similar. so yeah if we do go with the 60", not only are we getting a bigger screen, the quality is a lot better which is the main reason why my dad wants a new tv. They're both around $3,000
here's a picture of the 60" sony

DLP, DLP, DLP!!
I have an Optima DLP 50" and high def looks as good as any Plasma I have seen, but without the burn it! The only advantage to a plasma is that it can be wall mounted, besides that other TV's can do everything else better.
The only complaint that i have about my DLP TV is that it takes time to warm up and cool down...but only a minute or two.
DLP's will last for a long time, but you have to replace the bulb every once-in-a-while.
Costco had them for cheap too!

Here is the TV that I have, and at a much cheaper price!
If you took any plasma at Costco and put the same HD source as my tv, the DLP will kill it. Unfortunatly, they don't seem to put the HD source to this TV at any Costco's, which is probably because the big companies are throwing their weight around. The normal definition stuff is not the greatest on the DLP, but it is like that with most big screen TVs that stretch the picture...especially plasmas.

BTW, Samsung makes the worst Plasmas...just put a picture with lots of variations of the color black, and you will get a TON of posterization and muddiness on the screen
don't be fooled by the bright stuff they put on the screen at the store.
