I consider myself as a Christian...even though i dont go to church.

But, science has taught us numerous things about evolution, how the universe may have started, and general things about earth that the Bible does/can't explain. Sometimes you got to have faith though and believe in things that can't be explained.

As the old saying goes, "There are NO atheists in a fox-hole". Meaning if someone is on their deathbed or about to die he/she will pray to "God" for comfort.

To understand why the Bible "does not explain this or that," one must first realize the purpose of the Bible: to tell the story of Man's salvation. It is not a history book, nor is it a scientific reference, although it has allusions to both historical places and scientific matters. It's like complaining that your history book doesn't talk enough about the chemical bombs used in World War II-- your history book only talks about the history of World War II, not it's chemical discoveries.

--And iamboo is right: no person is perfect. You cannot judge a religion by it's followers, although, as Christians, it is our duty to be the best example we can be. This analogy might be a long shot, but you should not judge a book by the quality of its pages, but rather by the content its pages convey.

im just gonna propose a question asking for an opinion. it's not a statement, but just a thought.

Do you think people who are atheist, are lost. Or instead, do you think religion gives purpose to life.

I respect other ppl's religion, whatever it may be. But religion basically provides a Path and Goal to life. Not considering the extent of how much a person is really deeply involved with their religion, or even whatever religion it may be. But like a christian who believes in God, but doesn't really go to church that often or at all. Or a buddhist who believes the teachings but doens't really go to the temple that often. regadless of the extent of involvement in their own respective religions. But atheists, what do they believe in? Nothing. So what is their purpose in life? To live life according to their own will, and believing that their purpose only exists in the fact that by "chance" (evolution) they were created to consume resources on earth, live, then die, only to be a part of a continuing evolution? Whether evolution is true or not (i dont believe so), I would rather not believe the previous comment I just made, and believe that I have a purpose/goal in my own life. That I exist for a reason.

I know MangoEX is gonna comment. hehe. but anyone else who is atheist. I'd be interested to hear your responses.

lol^

any ways, no i dno't think people that are atheist are lost, they just know better than to believe in something that doesn't exist...

you all know, more people have died fighting for "god" than any other kind of war ever faught...

the only good thing i think there should be a god.... is because it keeps people in line...

for some reason, people have to follow these 10 commandments, and god will send you to hell if you mess up.... and there is a specific place where you will suffer for the rest of eternity. but for some reason god still loves, you and even if you kill people or what not and you ask for forgiveness and turn "crazy" he will forgive you... i dont' understand... bleh... making everything so complicated...

o yea... you know how people or the aposles(sp?) wrote the bible, how do we know that they wheren't smoking some weed?

in some cultures, the priests get high, then when they see things they think that the gods are commanding them...?

I honestly can't tell if you're asking for the sake of learning, or just to be stubborn like I usually am, but I'll answer anyways for those that would also like to be informed.

The Bible was written over a span of 16 hundred years, by 41 writers from numerous walks of life [i.e. fisherman, shepards, etc.], and only one Author [the Holy Spirit]; not one letter contradicts another, and all facts, places, and historical events have been proven true a myriad of times by multiple points of view. Despite the time span and different writers' lifestyles, the Bible remains extremely cohesive and complete.

^ Makes it kinda hard to doubt the integrity of the Bible, huh?

Good question!

No one has yet proven the non-existence of God.

you all know, more people have died fighting for "god" than any other kind of war ever faught...
Humans are designed to worship something; whether your god be the true God or temporal things is up to you. Most wars are actually for assest, such as money or land. Obviously, to those people, they would give their lives for such things [a sacrafice one might say] as a kind of "worship".

I completely respect Muslims and have many Muslim friends.

Here comes the hard part, though, and it is just me being honest: I have questions concerning the religion, and so far have been denied quite a few straight answers . I have also been corrected many times [which I am thankful to be] and learned a lot.

As far as these "fundamentalists" go, I think it is very unfortunate that there is such a strong division in Islam.

I actually wrote alot mainly replying to hondaluver's post but eh somehow it disappeared. but eh a reply to your thoughts...
I'm not an atheist but even if i didnt have the [semi]religion that i have, my purpose in life is to just live HAPPY. Death is inevitable and we're all going to die eventually, its just how you get there that matters. Not that i dont believe in an after life but right now i'm more worried about the present life. I guess thats mainly what i live by... i live for the moment and not the future. To me life is all about just having fun. IMO if your going to church just because you think/know its going to get you to heaven, your going for the wrong reason. you should go because you WANT to and because it makes you happy.
