Anyone have a compressor I could use? ill pay... (springs)
I'm trying to install springs on my wrx, and everyone charges up the A to do it, so I'd thought id do it myself. I have everything I need to do it, and I know how to do it.. except the compressor im using is too weak to take off the 2 bolts that hold the bottom portion of the strut. I broke several tools trying to get it off with a 2' pipe for leverage. still no luck. People tell me I need a compressor with at least 450 Psi to get it off successfully.. anyone know where i can use one, or got any ideas how to take the bolt off??
I just need something to get those bolts off, after that everything should be a breeze. If i have to ill have to pay the money to get it done.. theres a place in glendale but im only free on week ends, and they refuse to do this on the week end saying as how its a complicated car, etc. BS theyre just lazy!! the struts are plug and play, like any other car, jeezus

you cant do it by hand? isnt 19mm what the stock iron is? cause hell there's no way you can break those... if its that hard to take off, it almost sounds like the springs are pushing down on the hub... how are you going to get it back on? you have a hydraulic jack right

go out and buy the biggest breaker bar that you can find,(at least 2 ft long) make sure its lifetime warranty. Then get someone who is at least 190lbs and have him give it a push. In the end you'll still have the tool for the next hard bolt. They can be rough. When i put in my motor mount inserts the rear bracket that bolts to the tranny was a beeeaatch. I broke 2 sockets, almost gave up then it finaly broke loose. Good luck

^^ haha I tried everything in the book including a 3 foot pipe and sitting/standing on it... not good cause it tends to go sideways and strip the bolt. also i was working with one of my friends.. and hes insanely strong but he couldnt break it loose. and i tried unloading the suspension by jacking up the hub.. still no luck. people on the suby forums tried doing it too with extensions etc.. the best thing is a impact gun w/ 450 psi they reccomend .. ill just have to take it to a local shop around here to do it for $135
any ideas vnlilman? any shops around here? speedvision wont do it on saturdays... fawk.
any ideas vnlilman? any shops around here? speedvision wont do it on saturdays... fawk. ur car is jacked up and then ur doing it right? is there a way to leave ur car down and do it? squeeze underneath the car.. or if u hav sum kinda bridge to drive the car up on, u could hav more room.
if that dusnt work bcuz ur tires in the way.. u could try putting the tired down on the ground and let the disc sit on the rubber part so the weight of the car can compress it..
hmm if u cant understand me.. sorry i tried my best...

No i gotcha.. is thats what seriously causing it to be hard to take off? the spring being uncompressed? ill try jacking it up on the disc before going at it again. I broke a pep boys 3/8" to 1/2" adaptor for the breaker bar today. Went to home depot and bought a Husky brand, hopefully that wont break when i try it again tommorow.
haha i remember when me and my friend did the springs on his subie....for some reason those bolts are so damn tight...we also broke some tools until we borrowed a huge breaker bar (with lifetime warranty) from a friend...after some hours of pain got em off...so yea dont give up just yet

wait were you able to take the nut off but just having trouble taking out the bolt? if its just the bolt(and were you able to take the nut off), just keep turning it and it should eventually come out. if it doesnt than yeah its cause the suspension is probably putting pressure on it. You'll probably have to extend the suspension in order to loosen the tension rather than compress is(by jacking the hub up). if you can maybe even try to compress the springs on the car... jack the hub up, put some clamps on the springs and then take the jack off the hub and your springs shouldn't be putting pressure on the bolts.
if its the nut your trying to get off, your friend needs to work out more or something. I dont see how you cant break it free with an extension and with a little kick/jump seeing how you can easily loosen any lugnut with that method
