Listen after spending the whole day with the police baffled by how they stole my car we figured it out.
Way my car was set up.... I had a car alarm Avitator 2600. Pretty damn nice one but its not going to save you with what thieves are doing now, non of what people have posted so far on this sight will save you from the mistake honda made in engineering our car!!!!!
okay now listen up guys I am going to discribe how proffesional thieves will steel your civic in under 10 minutes!!!
first off we all know about our cars right?
okay point of entry!!! Thieves know the wire layout of your car...
lets say its like my car, were its lowered, soooo they can't go under the car to cut the wires well hell they dont need to!!
access point to all civics!!!
inside your car you have a latch that opens the hood of your vech right?
okay well honda was stupid enough to run that cable which isnt steal ahem to the engine bay through the top of your left quarter pannel.
the only seal preventing entry to the left quarter pannel is your wheel well guard.... thats easy to remove, damage or pry down!
take some pliars and pull down on that guard
reach as far as you can to feel for the cable.
snip the cable but not all the way..
than pull on the cable gently while someone else holds the hood so not to set the alarm off motion wise.
pulling motion will unlock the main latch.
than using a special tool
flashlight! look arounds for the battery while other guy looks for your siren
cut both batter power and siren if found or cut main electrical wire.
All this can be accomplish without setting off the car alarm!!!!
there is no motion sensing on car alarms when the hood unlatches.
congrats thieves have just disarmed your whole system...
but they are unsure that you have a back up right?
well thats simple for them as well, backup is activated by powerfailure to the battery. once again. they neethis is the wire on the quarter pannel..
I'm not going to explain specific location or "real tools require" just incase we have any wannabe thieves on this site.
All I can do is tell you to get that cable removed or get it out of the way!!!!! for safety guys..
yes I am insured and I have a new alarm put in along with a new location of that cable. They were not able to steal my car because my alarm that I already had installed had locked down the engine thank god for double kill switches.
Note in order for location of sirens and alarm box + secoundary alarm is= inside job. Which what happen to me..
Please block this thread soon after if need be or rework it mods if it goes into too much detail. I just wanted to warn people.

Good info. I already knew about the hood release cable. I think you should really delete that part of your post, because that's a major weak point that thieves will read about on here. But a backup battery will solve that problem.
Here is another post I started a while back when I was really pissed at thieves.

what about hood locks? my friend says he has hood locks that mount exactly where hood pins mount, except they got that circular key thingie that clocks the pins so the hood can't be opened either way, and its supposedly "pick proof"
i have hood sensors on my alarm so if they manage to pop the hood, the alarm goes off, and a few other features ^_^

buy yourself one of these items:
-get a hood pin with safety locks on em ($20+)
-i got a pager alarm that goes off for 30sec ($120+)
-I got a samurai 550china stainless steel ($100-300 depends on quality)
-a solid iron bar from a 5ton jack (I bought a 5ton jack for 20bucks bar comes with it)
-an expandable baton ($80 I carry em all the time)
-buy a glock26 ($450 new, waiting for my license)
-buy a sticker preferrably 6"x4' that says "protected by: Glock26" (on the process)
nobody dare's to touch my ride, or they'll get cut up or beatin to death by a steel bar

I didnt know about the cable, thank you for that info... The nice thing about my alarm if you try to remove my splash gaurd it gives off a warning. Just a little movement of my car it lets me know. Then I come out and beat the **** out of you.

^ can't they just use the same key to open every other kit ?^ unless each kit has a different key? I was thinking about a removeable steering wheel, you can take it off throw it in your trunk and lock it. Unless there's a way to get around the lock inside the car that locks the trunk?

why dont you just call this a steal a civic thread? engine kill is good, and trunk and hood sensors are good also
got em on my alarm along with double motion and double proximity sensors

Circular keys work by small changes in the diameter, and lengths in the "notch" part of the key..
Anyway most of you guys are just way too paranoid...if a theif wants your car or something inside of it they will get it...no amount of security will prevent them from it. All you can do is take out anything of value from the car when you exit it. Aside from that going way out of your way to prevent something that happens everyday is pointless...that is what insurance is for.
And perhaps you do manage to thwart a theif from breaking in or stealing your car...you will have to have the damage fixed that they caused in order to go about their goal....so now you have spent money to prevent it from happening and now more money to clean up after these butt fvcks...I say give it to them and claim insurance....
