would you guys boost or not?
Hey as many of you may or may not know im new to 7thgen and just this past month got myself an 04 ex coupe. Anyways long story short not sure what I want to do in this situation. I wanted to ask the locals to see what you guys would do in this situation. I've been talking with Andy at MaxRev and he said he would install the D17 turbo kit they make for our cars for like $3250 +tax installed. I figured for that price, that's one hell of a deal. They are close by, i'm sure there will be some warranty of their work and if i have problems they are close by, which makes it nice since other people have had problems after getting a turbo kit installed on their vic. My main situation is to whether or not to install it or not.. What would you guys do? I have a lil over 800 miles on my car now, and I purchased the 6yr/100,000 mile extended warranty for a little over a grand. That's the only thing holding me back. Would you guys boost it and void the warranty or wait it out a while and boost later or never? I just dont know what to do. I never even dreamed about adding boost to the car, but for some reason the funds are here right now and i could have my civic boostd in less than a week. Maxrev has all the part readily available and shop time open to do the work and get it installed. So yeah, thats the position i'm in. What would you guys do? Would you wait a few years before doing it to see if any problems come about on the car or do it now and void the extended warranty. I just have no clue what to do. Figured I would ask the locals, i'm getting mixed feedback from the Forced Induction area, not sure yet.
lemme know !

i would love to boost mine...but im still in warranty and dont feel that putting that much money in the ride right now is too smart...maybe in a year or two ill boost after giving her a make-over
Technically nothing voids your warranty. The law states that they have to prove that your modifications either cause or contributed to the malfunction. Which can be easy and not at the same time. According to Honda of i/h/e the only one that does not affect the powertrain warranty is the exhaust. however, i have never heard of a header causing problems. Now a CAI, well if you suck up a bunch of water then your S.O.L., but the chances of that are slim if you use some common sense.

no it doesnt void warrenty for exhaust and cai, but honda will not warrenty those parts, obviously, fyi for the specs on the law, go to sema's web site and search for the magnum moss warrentie act (sp)
Well...I guess I would weigh the options...
Do I need the car boosted or could I invest the money, make some cash over time and raise my personal worth...while waiting to actually break the engine in and THEN boost it...
Or do I give into immediate gratification and drop the money now?
Personally, I would hold off and break the engine in first. Invest the money...even if it is a Money Market account, and let the excitement wear off. If you still want it in a couple months...go for it. At least you will have made a bit of money in interest (depending on the financial vehicle you use to hold your money) and you really know that you want to drop over $3k into your car that you will never recoup.

I want to do it, but I am probably going to wait at least another year. I have the 75,000 mile warranty and I have about 35K on it right now. I would wait and break the engine in for a while at least. Do what dragin said. Save it and earn more money and then get boosted and have a little extra to get bodykit, wheels, etc. with the extra money. But that's just my opinion, do what you feel is right.
Think if you get the turbo and something does happen to your car, would you have enough money at all times to get repairs done to it? Just a thought
