OK, when I was 16 (a long time ago it seems now) I had a honda prelude as my first car. I bought it w/ a lot of miles and it was a great car. I know that I am a little partial w/ hondas and all but the reason my parents wanted me to get one when I was 16 was the reason most buy them, they last. If you are not choosing a honda though, go w/an import!

When i was 16 i had a '90 Integra, I thought it was the sweetest car, If you get anything get it in a manual, you won't regret it!

good luck killing real domestics with a 7thgen, lol
for 10k, you can get a 180sx for 6k and buy a sr20det for 2500 and then swap. if you want to race, learn to drive a stick. racing with an auto will only get you "point and laughs"
stick is not that difficult to learn, but may be a bit long to master, ask your friends with manuals, i am sure they are willing to teach you
