Crap, first speeding ticket

I was coming home from college today and I must not have been paying attention or something cuz there was a marked car sitting there and I was like "hmm that looks like a cop" and then before I was even past him his lights were on and he pulled behind me. I got a ticket for going 81 in a 55. I thought I might get a warning cuz I've never even been pulled over before, but nope, I got a ticket. So now I have to go to driving school so it won't go on my record and so my insurance won't go up. He said "I'm not going to take your license." Do they usually do that? I dunno. It costs $140 for me to go to driving school.

Maybe I'll get a radar detector now. I said I would never get one until I got a speeding ticket. Looks like I might be in the market for one now.

that sux. where i am at (GA) they supposevly take your license if your 26mph over whats allowed. now if the cop is a **** he will push ur actual speed high enough so ur license goes bye b..y..e.... .
and taking that class i guess will be worth preventing all the other stains on your record, so i guess go for it.

20 over is reckless driving. they can take but usually don't. 140 isn't bad for almost 30 over. that is like 6-7 points. I thought DS only took off 5. hopefully it all works out. Good luck. Oh BTW go to court. it never hurts.

The key is, To spot the cop, before they spot you! This method has left me ticket free for the past 3 years!

General rule, if you can see them, they've already seen you.

As long as you keep your speed to under 10mph over the limit you are safe. Also if you fly by a cop and don't want to alert him by lighting up your brake lights, just slowly pull up on the E-Brake.

I think the key to spotting cops on the highway is to learn where to expect them. For example: at the top of a hill, where the speed limit changes, around a turn, etc. I've found they always sit in a spot that you can't see until it is too late.

The class is definately worth it. I've never gotten a ticket, but the money for the class is probably less than your insurance going up.

Either you don't drive much or don't speed. Better knock on wood.

I have gotten 3 tickets in the past year. Most of them were atleast 20 over. I have an out of state license so the points dont matter I just have to pay the ticket. My insurance is hight as hell though.

So if I take the class the points won't affect me, right?

I'm not sure how the whole "points" thing works anyway.

umm... well in california... you get one ticket... you're allowed to go to traffic school to make up for that point... if not... then you're issued a point... and if you get a ticket within 18 months of getting the previous one... you get a point on your record because you're supposed to wait 18 months before being allowed to go to traffic school again... or something like that... umm if you get into an accident and it's your fault... automatic one point and if you've caused bodily injury to the person you hit... then that's 2 points (instead of 1)... umm total of 3 points earns you the satisfaction of getting your license suspended... not to mention excessive speed as to be considered wreckless driving... or perhaps even involuntary manslaughter for going about 100 with passenger(s) in your car... umm that's the best to my knowledge... i probly didn't mention the insurance going up for addition of points heh and your points go away after 3 years...

lol, Fly, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that slightly pulls the e-brake on cop sightings..

I'm just afraid, if I spot one suddently, that I could yank the e-brake.. haha! That definatly won't be too good

mst officers wont write you unless your 10-15 mph over the limit, and if you hit your brakes we can tell, For your all's general information dont hit them cause that proves your guilty pretty much cause the radar picks you up hitting your brakes quicker then anyone else. and also the license plates on the front, radar detectors eat those all day!!! as far as radar detectors in your personal car, i wouldnt go that route, its a waist of money they use signals from radios and your radar detector will pickup anything from truckers to families traveling using hand held radios in seperate cars. just stay no more the 10mph and you should be fine.

There are ways to tell if you slow down without hitting the brakes. The front end will drop some, maybe a little puff of raw gas out the tailpipe, etc.

I disagree on the radar detectors though. Mine has saved my butt more than once. The problem I have is in KY where they'll sit in the woods and run Vascar or some other distance/timing device that doesn't have a signal.

Around towns, it doesn't pay to speed anyhow. It won't usually get you anywhere any faster.

I think you should apply the breaks if you see a cop radaring you. Proving your guilt or not, they run by numbers, depending on how much you are over or not. The job of the cop is to make sure people keep their speed down. If they see people ignorantly speeding past them, they will pull them over for sure.
