On my way to work again today. Same place I ran into the civic yesterday. I'm ahead of a new (2000+ ?) purple neon (why me?) and cruisin along. The neon wants to pass so I move over and he passes. I fall back in line behind him, and he's really movin. (for a neon) We're gettin up around 100mph and the neon's exhaust starts smoking. Fearing an impending explosion, I back off a bit. Besides that, I mean how stable can a neon be at 100mph anyways?
I continue to follow him/her (probably a "fat" her since it IS a purple neon) and at one point they suddenly move to the next lane and slow down. I go by and the neon moves in behind me and gets on my *** shining their brights. I figure this is probably because many people mistake the HID's on an S2k as the brights, or think we are flashing our brights because they don't have an auto-leveler.
Next, the neon gets up next to me, and proceeds to do the "i want to see your tailights" jerky motion. You know, blip the throttle, trying to egg on a race. However, we are already going damn near 100mph and I can't imagine this little thing can hardly even go any faster. Alas, I floor it. In 6th. And the neon can't keep up. However, I do imagine the noise the engine was making, followed by the smoke from the rear exhaust, will certainly give this winner a trip to the dealer some time soon.
About the only other encounter I had today was a new Mustang GT. I tried to get him to race, but he'd have none of it. Maybe he's already lost to an S2k on a freeway roll, and has no intentions of being shown up again.

What i dont understand is how ANY non- srt4 would even THINK about taking an s2k starting at anything over 80mph. Or, any speed for that matter.

I'm not Fat, or a Chick, but I drive a purple Neon (which, incidentally, looks better I think now that I yanked off the bodyside moldings lol weightreduxlol )
On a serious note...DOHC 1st gens are good for about 135ish with a Mopar or AF/X PCM, otherwise stock...I dunno about automatic, SOHC 2nd gens..my wifes 01 is pretty damn slow on the expressway...it's probobly about as quick as an EX/LX auto at those speeds. I've never had it over 95mph I don't think..I'd imagine it'd top out at 105-110 or so...
The car shoudln't have been spitting smoke..I dunno what the deal with that was...and for the record, not ALL Purple Neons are slow, and not ALL purple Neons are driven by "fat" chicks...
And as for stability, I'm sure a second gen Neon is just as stable as a Civic at those speeds...infact, my Neon felt more stable at 120+ than my 6th gen civic did... :-/
I've been thinking...wouldn't it be bad-*** to get an SRT-4 drivetrain (2nd gens weigh around 3000lbs) and stick it in a 1st gen coupe (2400lbs)....Methinks that'd make for a kick **** sleeper.. :-)

Exactly...it is a neon..no matter what you do to it...just like, no matter what you do to a Civic, it's still a Civic...
I think that sig was my response to all the assinine comments made about the SRT-4 ( "yeah, it's fast, but it's still a Neon...wahh wahh wahh")
And, I don't know what the hell a Neon was doing picking on the S2K..I'm not stupid...I'll wax a Civic, but definatlely won't be able to touch an S2K, especially not on the Eway...a Boosted/swapped Neon on the otherhand, would definatley have a chance...

Thanks guy...
At the time, I didn't care what color the car was, I was just looking for a 1st gen DOHC coupe..and I had a helluva time finding a 1st gen DOHC coupe with a 5 speed when I bought it, in the Chicago area...all the DOHC's I could find were autos...and the color didn't really bother me..I mean, I love the Amethyst you could get on the EK's...
Whatever..as I get older, I realize more and more, that it's just transportation...and every mod I do to it, makes the car less enjoyable as an automobile (i.e. loud header/exhaust, solid motormounts shake the mirrors at idle..lol)

An SRT-4 would have been walked by me too. Albeit not as hard, but I'd still have pulled on him the whole way. We've discussed this before.
BTW, nice neon. However, I will pretend I never saw it, since I will continue to believe purple neons are driven by fat chicks. Yours is more like.... lavender or something.... not purple. hehe
