Rotaries outlawed from Daytona 24

This year, the Grand-Am sanctioning body, outlawed all Rotary Engine Powered Race cars at the Daytona Rolex 24 Hour Race. Section 3-1.6 Rotary engines are not allowed (Rolex Series only). We take this as another one of those misguided and ignorant decisions, by rules makers and sanctioning bodies that do not and care not to understand the Rotary power plant. The Rotary engine has been a mainstay of endurance sports car racing around the world, for 3 decades. Endurance racing is one of the last great places where the inherent values of the Rotary Engine can still shine through, at a world class level of competition, although it's been severely regulated/restricted of late.

Rolex Series only

That is go lame! Afraid of a little competition?

Yea, i would LOVE to go down there but so much going on in my life right now. Only reason
I care about the banning is that I love sports cars and especially rotaries, and there's just no sufficient justification to ban them from the race. It's like banning you from a track race cuz you're not wearing underwear.

from what i hear, they rev really high and have good top end. bad thing, if your driving it way too aggressively (e.g. stock 1995 rx-7) your 1.3 liter powerplant will give you less than 5 mpg in the city. 100 miles or less in a tank sux IMHO.
