I wasn't nervous that I'd lose. The numbers are all on my side. The only thing I get nervous about is racing on public roads.... I've always got that extra eye open for other people.
Well, I know for a fact that a stock S2000 dynos at 210hp (or lower) at the wheels and even less tourqe.

A stock SRT-4 dynos at 215hp at the wheels and 245 tourqe at the wheels. This has been proven, I'm not going by mag numbers.

The numbers are not on your side. You obviously have not reseached the car much. I'm not gonna call BS on your story, but I will tell you that you would undoubtetly get your *** handed to you in a race from a roll. With equal drivers based on trap speeds that I have already witnessed with both cars, a race from a stop would be extremely close. Both cars trap about the same times, but the SRT-4 will trap a higher speed due to it having so much high-end from the turbo.
You think the S2000 isn't faster than cars that dyno with more HP and way more torque? try on an LT1 or Mustang GT. S2k is faster than both, yet both make way more HP and torque than the SRT4. gearing, area under the curve, etc, etc.

And hmm.... ironically enough, the times i found on the SRT forums had 14.0 and 14.1, both at 100mph. I trap about 102 at 14 flat..... And undoubtedly get my *** handed to me from a roll? Hello mcfly. I won from a roll. On top of that, the S2000 has one hell of a top end. considering that's where our power is.

2 main last points.

A. I will NOT lose to a stock SRT4, evAr.

B. Yes... it's DAMN close to an S2k, but the S2k still pulls from a roll, even if only a little.... it's just a bit faster than the SRT4.

Jeez, I should hope so. One is a RWD sports car that costs over $30k.

The other is a sport economy with a turbo van engine that costs less than $20k.

Oh and while we're at it:

Lambo Diablo > Ford Aspire

Ferrari 360 Modena > VW Beetle

and of course,

SRT-4 > 7th gen Civic.

I only get about 1.5 cars on him to 100mph or so (he did better than I thought he would) and then we hit 110mph. And then I walk him HARD. Those things lose a lot of steam around 110 or so. I probably put another 2-3 lengths on him by the time I shut down at 125 (which was already much faster than I wanted to be going). It was interesting to say the least, but they must shift or something near 110 and fall on their face in that next gear.

First you say you walked him hard, then you say it may pull only a little from a roll.

Sure, you have top end, but what do you think a turbo is for? Have you seen the video of the SRT-4 racing the WRX from a roll? A turbo is almost entirely top end. Oh, and the SRT-4 does not run out of steam after 110mph. It still continues to gain power and boost. The car's maximum speed is 155mph, so it still had plently left.

You stated that you trap about 102 and 14 flat. Those are almost the exact same times of an SRT-4 with an equally skilled driver. Which leads me to believe that the guy you were racing was a lousy driver.

I have a friend with a S2000 with a AEM intake. He's a good driver. As soon as I get some more miles on my car I'll see if he will race me on the highway, and I'll have someone film it.

News flash: THAT NEON IS FAST! Everybody knows that. I would just hate to see all the cars that it would beat. I would probably get so annoyed and frustrated. To be honest I hate the car. That silver one doesn't look all that bad (mrmixitup), looks alot better than that cheesy yellow, just not my style of car. Does anyone know how this car is selling? Are alot of people (i'm sure 17-25yrs.) buying them? Just curious. Doesn't it annoy you how the American car makers answer to the import car frenzy with this car. I know its not gonna happen because it probably wouldn't be so profitable, but i wish some Japanese car company could make a turbo 20,000 car that had kick *** performance. I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too!

I said I walked him hard after 110mph. Otherwise it was a very slow pulling I had on him from 55-110. Read. Comprehend. Post. thank you.

and 102 are my higher trap speeds. I run high 13's, with best of 13.7 in the 1/4 mile.

Oh i'm mistaken it's 3.47 on the SRT-4. The final drive on my neon is 3.94.

NVG T-850
3.47 FD
3.647 - 1st
2.045 - 2nd
1.367 - 3rd
0.947 - 4th
0.756 - 5th

I have no trouble believeing you beat one, Maybe he gave up at 110ish?

Just wait until all the ricers on neons.org show up with their stage 27 mopar turbo upgrades under the factory warranty! You'll be in real trouble then as the hordes of 10 and 9 second neons attack.

This is the last time I'll warn you. flaming the way you are and calling the members of this board ignorant will not be tolerated. If you want to debate the issue like the other neon enthusaists here, then do so without personal flaming and attacks. Last warning, PERIOD.

and get over the fact that people drive what they want to drive. if we all wanted to drive the fastest car we could for the money, we'd have muscle cars with big V8's. people aren't "butthurt" because of the neon. for the last time, we buy what we want and what is in our price range. we don't go "oh gee, i have $25,000... what's the FASTEST straightline car I can buy for that?".

I do concede that he may have given up.... it didn't seem so, but it's possible that he gave up, then thought about it and kept going or something?

I'm going to do some playing on numbers here, cuz I'm curious what it will come up with. the neon redlines at 6500?

Alright... here's the numbers. let's try a roll from say a 25mph roll in 1st gear for the S2k and the SRT4.
If you want to skip the math, go to the bottom under the line......

Neon
FD (is actually 3.526 according to dodge)
1st 3.647
2nd 2.045
3rd 1.367
4th .947
5th .756
tire size 205/50/17

Using a dyno chart, the neon's average power through the gears in it's power band, and using where it's RPMS drop when it shifts... it has an average of about 215lb/ft of torque. (at 4000rpm or so, it starts at about 225lb/ft and drops to just under 200lb/ft by redline) I gave it the benefit of the doubt of 215lb/ft.

So that means the neon puts down an average of this for wheel torque for the respective gears. (FD*gear/tire radius*avg torque) Plus we'll factor in weight. Neon comes in at 2,970lbs.

1st 3.526*3.647/1.17=10.99 * 215= 2363lb/ft in 1st 2970/2363= 1.26 (lower number is better)
2nd (removing calcs to save time) = 1324lb/ft in 2nd = 2.24
3rd ........................................... = 885lb/ft in 3rd = 3.36
4th .............................................. = 613lb/ft in 4th = 4.85

Okay, next up the S2000.
FD 4.10
Primary reduction 1.16
1st 3.133
2nd 2.045
3rd 1.481
4th 1.161
5th .971
6th .811
tires 225/50/16

The S2000 makes an average of about 130lb/ft of torque from 6000rpm on with starting at about 5600rpm in 1st. So wheel torque gives you this. WEight is 2650 according to s2ki.com.

1st 4.10*1.16*3.133/1.05=14.2 * 130 = 1846lb/ft in 1st = 2650/1846 = 1.44
2nd .................................................. ..... = 1205lb/ft in 2nd = 2.20
3rd . .................................................. .... = 872lb/ft in 3rd = 3.04
4th .................................................. ...... = 684lb/ft in 4th = 3.87
5th. .................................................. ..... = 572lb/ft in 5th = 4.63
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sooooo.... the numbers. (remember, lower is BETTER) I will put the number with the advantage in parenthesis

Gear... Neon vs S2000

1st (1.26) vs 1.44
2nd 2.24 vs (2.20)
3rd 3.36 vs (3.04)
4th 4.85 vs (3.87)
4thneon/5thS2k 4.85 vs (4.63)
So 1st gear advantage goes to the neon. After that, it's the S2k, with the advantage increasing as speed increases. Also note that the neon shifts to 2nd (the 2.24) at 37mph. But the S2k has 1st gear (1.44) til 44mph. Going to about 145mph, which is where the neon tops out 4th, and the S2k tops out 5th... the S2k has the advantage from 37mph til 145mph.

so yes, neonmike was right. the numbers are on my side. Now the advantage the S2k isn't much. It's enough that a mere 200-300lbs of weight, and the advantage the S2k has is lost. So yeah, it's damn close. But the S2k is ultimately just a bit quicker on the top end. Now these are just numbers, but they give you a VERY close idea of what real performance will be like. I stand firm in my original statement, that given equal drivers, the S2k will pull from a roll above 37mph as indicated.

This is the last time I'll warn you. flaming the way you are and calling the members of this board ignorant will not be tolerated. If you want to debate the issue like the other neon enthusaists here, then do so without personal flaming and attacks. Last warning, PERIOD

S2000man, honestly, some people on this board have no respect for any other vehicle unless it has an "H" or an "A" on the back of the trunk...... Saying the Neon is a piece of s**t for no other reason than the look of the car is in my opinion ignorance.....To recieve respect you must give respect and a lot of members on this board do not give respect ot anything other than their 7th gen civic..... If people expect their opinion to be heard, put some substance behind it as you have .....

Okay S2kman...You, sir, are taking the moderator thing WAY too far. I find it quite hypocritical that you tolerate, and participate in 5 pages of subjective comments directed at degrading the Neon, but when I do something as simple as question your 1/4 mile time, you get offended and consider it a personal attack..
Since when are comments such as "it's still a POS neon" "it sucks because it's domestic" etc... objective, and intelligent comments? Look at the title of this thread, "that damn little neon" sheesh...what about this car upsets you so much?

I have ABSOLUTLEY no problem with what people drive, and have not lobbied to convince anyone as to what they should drive. I hypothosized that perhaps people were jealous of the vehicle, and used that as a basis for their intelligent "POS neon is ugly" comments. Since when does a car's aesthetic value determine wether or not it's a good car? Crap, if I cared so much what people drove, would I myself drive a Neon?

If you are going to slam me for my comments, perhaps you should lean to be an impartial judge, and base your comments/actions upon that.

And as for the discussion of value? All I said was that you shouldn't directly compare a 30k dollar sports car(which I actually like very much) to a 20k dollar Econo car...Different vehicles all together.......Like someone said previously, if you expect respect, you must also treat others with it as well. I find your comments more offensive/insulting throughout this thread, than my 2 sentences. Why don't you re-read this post, and tell me about the level of maturity and intelligence of the members on this board....

You're right unfortunately. but flaming a car is different than flaming people.

but yes, too many people are brand loyal. and unfortunately, they'll never understand what a true auto enthusiast is IMO.

Now look at those comments.... NOT A SINGLE ONE IS DIRECTED AT A MEMBER OF THIS FORUM. I won't stand for personal attacks... how about I quote you?

Quote
I think people here are butthurt that they are driving 115hp slushbox civics, while others are driving 220whp neons that put out low 14's for 20 grand...WTF..the ignorance on this board slays me...
Not to mention you said the same thing in another thread.... that the members of this forum are ignorant. That's the difference. slam a car all you want. that's people's personal preference. heck... call my S2000 a slow POS for all I care. I'll defend my car, but with something other than a flame. You want to defend your car, then fine. Do so as other members of this forum have. But do NOT resort to flaming me or ANY member on this forum.

As for degrading the neon... yeah, I don't like them. My personal preference. I don't like the way they look, though you can't get a faster straightline car new for the money. But yeah, I think they're ugly, and obviously other members here do as well. What do you expect? It's a civic forum. Dare I quote what people say about civics on the neon forum? It's the same... but that's fine cuz it's a neon forum and they don't like the civic.

Flaming cars and flaming members is two completely different subjects. Learn to differentiate between the two before you decide to go off and flame members here, myself included.

not that it matters, but i have been a member here since early 2001 also, simply under another name.

WHy don't you quote that again. Please, sir, tell me WHO that post was directed to exactly. I didn not insult any certain individual on here.

Is it wrong to suggest that people on this board who drive 115hp "automatic" (slushbox is a common slang term for Automatic) civics may be jealous of the 220whp neon? That was NOT offensive to anyone inparticular. It was my opinoin.

WAIT

Let me change a few words to make it a little more PC for you...

Original - "I think people here are butthurt that they are driving 115hp slushbox civics, while others are driving 220whp neons that put out low 14's for 20 grand...WTF..the ignorance on this board slays me..."

Edited - "I think people here are UPSET that they are driving 115hp AUTOMATIC civics, while others are driving 220whp neons that put out low 14's for 20 grand...what the heck...the ignorance on this board slays me (I will not edit this as I stand by this opinion)..."

I'm entitled to my opinoin as are the other members, like yourself..

"it was to him calling the members of this site ignorant"

Can you defend all of the people on this board? Are you denying any bit of ignorance here? $hit...I'll admit that neons.org is FULL of ignorant Neon Ricers....

How about this...let me rephrase that and make it even more PC...

"A majority of the members of this board are UNINFORMED"

How's that? It's like a dictatorship. Since when is the word ignorance untollerable?
