Rep Power: 324 My '01 Civic LX vs. My Friend's '95 240SX - RESULTS !
'01 Civic LX (coupe- auto)
Performance Mods:
* OBX SRI
* Custom Straight Piping 2.25"
* Magnaflow Street Series Muffler
* Tien SS FULL Coil-Cver Kit
* 17x7 Rims (weighs 25 lbs. each )
* Kumho Ecsta 711 (205/40/17)
Weighing Me Down Mods:
* (2x) 10" Subwoofers
* Custom Bandpass Enclosure
* 700w Amplifier
'95 240SX (coupe, what else? - auto)
* 15" Momo Rims
* Aftermarket Tires (I don't know what size)
Type of Race: 1/8 mile (up hill with a slight curve )
Weather Condition: Cloudy
Road Condition: Wet
Details:
From a complete stop (on a stop sign). Both launched at the same moment. During the launch (I launched at 2k rpm), he peeled out by accident and so did I (of course, because the road was wet). In the beginning, we were both "neck and neck" until after around 4k rpm during first gear. I started to pull off ahead of him. Until the other stop sign which was our finish line and it is approx 1/8 of a mile. I won all the way by a fender.
Okay that's all! Now enjoy the glory of our EM2s' winning! LoL.

Rep Power: 0 Yea, that "race" was seriously lacking in detail. How long did it last, 4 seconds?

About the race there are 3 things terribly wrong with the conditions:
1. Wet road
2. Uphill
3. Around a curve

1st gear = top 25-30 mph
2nd gear = 60+ mph and "race" ended.

Rep Power: 0 An automatic S14 running side by side with an automatic civic is somewhat believable, considering the road conditions, but i guarantee next time you run him and its on dry pavement, you are going to be severely disapointed. See, you have a FWD car, which makes it slightly more stable when driving in a straight line on less than desirable pavement. A RWD vehicle has a tendancy to torque steer, fishtail, whatever..... and had he actually went WOT in the rain i guarantee he was getting 2/3 maybe 1/2 the traction your civic was getting. Next race prepare to have your *** handed to you. Im not hating or anything, but the D17 is no match for the ka24de twin cam engine whatsoever on dry ground. My buddy has a 1990 240sx hatch, ka24e single cam engine and from a red with his manual tranny it would still be a close race on dry pavement, but my ex would eventually pull ahead of him after we break around 85 - 90 mph. He would have to constantly remind me over the two-ways to watch my speed since his engine cuts out at 113 and were already nearing 107...... Yea i know it takes liek 5 more minutes for the mighty d17 to get to 113 from 107 but thats not the point.... Anyways, congrats this time, and dont be ashamed to post the results of a dry pavement run against him next time. It takes a bigger man to admit his losses that to admit his wins.

Rep Power: 0 Nothing wrong with racing on curves. Actually i'd rather race uphill than down downhill.
I'd also rather to a bunch of curves than just a boring straight line.

Rep Power: 0 yeah if your talking about torque steer on your mirage i can believe it my friends gs-t is just horrid with torque steer at the hole i take him by like 10 cars at the end i am a good .7-.8 quicker then him but at a role it is closer 1.5-2 cars....but torque steer is crazy thats my only prb with fron whell drive cars its alot easier to straighten a rwd car out but when your pwer is pulling you to a diferent side, its scary stuff.

Rep Power: 0 You have to be kidding sayin that torque steer doesnt exist in a RWD car. So when a decent driver launches and his back end follows the slope of the road (assuming hes not on a dragstrip) and he has to steer against the tire slip to keep his car from turning on its own, what do you call it? Every time its ever been talked about i have heard it called torque steer or fishtailing...

Rep Power: 376 Torque Steer:
Noun:
Definition: The annoying tendency of some front-wheel drive vehicles to pull to one side when engine torque is applied. In other words, you step on the gas and the car wants to steer right or left. By redesigning the power train to use equal length half shafts between the transaxle and wheels, the tendency towards torque steer can be greatly reduced. The other cure is to keep off the gas.
torque steer applies ONLY to FWD cars. On a RWD car when the back end steps out, that's all it is. the back end stepping out... it naturally follows the curvature of the road, or usually one particular direction, depending on differential, open diff, limited slip, etc, etc.

Rep Power: 0 Thanks for clearing that up. So no one really has any slang term for when that happens on a RWD car? I dont want to sound like a dumbass next time im talking with some people and refer to my back end slipping out as torque steer since its obviously not.
I guess this is what I get for actually listening to a guy who thinks that a stock gsx-t can run 10 second 1/4 miles...

Rep Power: 0 No no no, hes serious.... Its cuz it has the T at the end, since its turbo'd its fast as he!!. 10 seconds stock. And get this too, he drives an eagle talon Esi..... Youd think he knows what hes talking about.... God that guy cracks me up. Has one of those coffeecan exhaust tips, i swear its like 6" diameter out the back. Sounds like azz... Unfinished sub box and amp rack (all mdf fiberboard....) that isnt even bolted down so every time his car hits even the slightest bumbps in teh road all you hear is his box slamming against the base board in his hatch area..... He even told my friend one time that he put nos in his car to try it out and didnt like it so he took it out, which was led by a conversation about how i thought itd be funny to put nitrous in my friends automatic echo..... He joined a car club which consisted of more mid 80's domestic grocerey getters than sport compacts.... The list goes on and on, but hes still a good guy.
