Dragstrip encounter - s200man01 please read

Hey, i dont know the exact place to put this since its technically not a street encounter, but i was wondering if you have run against an automatic 350Z yet and what the outcomes were?

For all those who doubt the capabilities of a good automatic transmission in an import car please read this post from a member of the 350z forum i am a member of...

"My girl did herself proud today! First time out with the Z to the 1/4 mile and I am very pleased w/the results.
I began w/times in the 14.7 @ 96mph area and worked down from there. That was followed w/14.602, 14.573, and finally, my best of the day @ 14.102 @ 99.461mph. There was another touring there, but w/6MT and he could not get out of the 14.6 area. Needless to say, I am VERY happy in view of the poor (incorrect?) dyno of 218 hp I ran a few weeks ago. Regards, Jim"

He also posted a picture of the timeslip from his last 14.102 run if anyone really needs to see it i will post it here on request.

I dunno if your a member there and have seen this post yet either but it may surprise you like it did to me... Automatic Z cutting nearly 1/2 second off his ET whereas the manual there couldnt break out of the mid 14's. I know your an awesome driver and break into the high 13's on good runs but i just had to find out what your luck was against an automatic if you have even tried yet.

edit: added the third 0 to s200"0"man01's name in the title! <----- me for not knowing how to do this til our resident post ***** came to the rescue.

Just a question, Why did you get the auto? Preference? Price? Resale? Just wondering.

Convenience of a daily driver, my only car, and the fact that i drive 18 miles each way to work and back thru a city envirnment having to stop and go every 1/8 to 1/4 mile anyways with all teh damn redlights. Besides, i have the shiftronic shifter if i want the freedom of a manual without the clutch. If you ever have the chance to test drive an automatic 350z youll understand why i had no problem buying the auto, and yes price was a factor, automatic touring model is 1600 dollars LESS than the manual version of the touring model, and since touring was the only one with heated leather power seats package i couldnt pass up the deal, let alone that the dealer had the EXACT one i wanted just off a truck with no deposit on it, i jumped on that one and threw all consideration of a manual away when i realized that i didnt have to get on a 3 month waiting list to order the one i wanted. Oh, and that he didnt charge me several grand over MSRP for it helped too.

The automatic in this car is NOTHING like the one i had in my civic, this one is a very clean precise and responsive transmission, its very much on par with the one in my dads corvette and with obvious reasons, seeing as how the automatic vettes (2000+ C5 model years anyways) consistantly pull lower 1/4 mile times than manual ones do.

Hey, can you post some specs on your car? I heard you have some crazy sleeper.

Yea, the Z has always been an amazing tradition for some families. There is a lady i work with who between herself and her husband have owned at least 1 of every model Z created. They actually are down to their original Datsun 240 which they will never sell if their life depended on it (all original, all stock, completely beautiful perfect condition) and a late 80s Nissan 300zx n/a. They just sold off the 280 since it was in the worst condition of the 3 they had most recently. Her son is waiting for the springtime so that he can get a chance to go out with me in mine on a saturday cruise night since we get some really good parkinglot meets going out here.

edit: yea, im shying away from teh greddy due to warranty issues seeing as i have the extended 5 year bumper to bumper warranty. Im looking at the Nismo turbocharger system since if i order and have installed at the dealer once Nismo opens shop here, it will be placed under my factory 5 year drivetrain warranty.

I was referring to tech specs, ive seen that post already but what kind of numbers do you run, 1/4 et and trap speed, 0-60, bhp/tq, whp/tq, stuff like that... Obviously telling us isnt going to change the fact you can eat us all for dinner.......

Its the LeMans Sunset (orange) touring automatic with Burnt Sienna leather (more orange) seats and Black interior.

No performance mods yet, still dont have a reason to slap them on, maybe an S-AFC2 if i can get a harness so its jsut plug and play installation. No intake kit since im waiting off for Nismo TC.

I added some horizontal chrome grill slats in the front lower grill to break up the all black plastic down there. Aftermarket 5.6" LCD Tv Tuner screen in stock navi location with a dvd player under my passenger seat with also plays vcd and mp3. And currently adding yellow/amber LED accent lighting under dash. (JDM style option)

last the car was ran was for tunning purpose of the new injectors.. never got them lined out till the last run then i blew an ic pipe off (no big deal just a hose clamp) but i let off throttle and costed across the line at 13.2 but i trapped 119mph. yes i let off a cpl hundred feet after the 1/8. that run it trapped 7.9@90mphh at the 1/8. no slicks and race gas. the car does have an 11 second pass in it. Has far as dyno I don't know its always been tuned with the pocketlogger. With the new emanage i have installed i do hope to go to the dyno soon we will be taking the n2o powered 7thgen with me dyno battle mirage vs civic . a 4g63 is a nice torque engine and the torque up until about 400hp will pretty evenly match hp and torque. after that your getting most of the hp at the top end. IE big turbo!

look foward to hearing about your nismo turbo kit. hope this help anything else you wanna know u can aim me or just ask here.

Well I have raced one auto Z from a roll, which I slowly pulled. But remember this. The fastest auto Z will still be a little slower than the fastest manual Z in the end. It's just simple mathematics. That manual Z has that one extra gear that allows the preceding gears to be just a bit shorter than those of the auto Z. (of course drivers may suck. lol) When I'm ruthless I'll get no slower than 14.1 or 14 flat. If I'm really on, that's when I start playing around with my own personal best, and start into the 13.8's and 13.9's. However, I am no longer stock, so it's kinda a moot point now.

I do plan on hitting GLD and creating a big meet sometime soon, so I'll keep you posted to when I do. Since it'll be first runs of the season, I predict I'll probably be in the 14.2 area, maybe spiking lower into 13's if I'm having a good day. (gotta get the old racing blood flowing ) It will also depend on whether or not I have exhaust and VAFC tuned by then. Right now I have intake, which probably won't do much as far as time, but it may get me slightly higher trap speeds. It may knock a tenth off my time at best?
