02' LX vs. V6 Camaro
Not many people seem to be posting in the Street Encounters forum, so I figured I would share one of my stories.
Two days ago I was coming home on the highway and I pulled up at a red light. The next thing I know a guy I used to go to school with pulls up next to me with his girlfriend in the car. He revs a little and that's when I figured it must have been a V6, because it sounded like crap. No one was on the road so I figured I might as well try to race him. I have never raced a V6 Camaro, so I didn't know what to expect. I never have gotten a good launch so I figured it would at least be good practice. Finally the light turns green and I launch at about 3000 rpms. It must have been perfect because my tires spun a little and then I just took off. 7000 came up pretty quick so I shifted to second and got a chirp out of the tires. I look over and he is about one car length behind me already. I couldn't believe that I was ahead at all much less by a whole car length. Second gear came to an end at about 60 mph and I go ahead and shift to third. I keep waiting for him to catch up and fly by but he never did. I got part of the way through third and just shut it down at 80 mph. I look back and he is about three car lengths behind me.
I figured he must not have gotten a good launch and I never saw him shift, so I'm guessing it was an automatic. I know that he was trying because I could hear his engine the whole time through first gear, after that I guess I was far enough ahead that I couldn't hear it. Still I thought it was a good race and I kept wondering how he was going to explain to his girlfriend that he lost to a Honda Civic. Thanks for listening and start posting more stories.

What??? your telling me you beat an V6 Camaro.......A girl I know had a 98 V6 and she would smoke me every chance she got ...... Mind you it was a manual tranny but still.......

What year/body style was it? Was it the mid-90s curvy ones or the older 'IROC' style? Coz if it was a new one, it was either running terribly, or he wasn't racing you. Either way, if you shut up a V6 Camaro, thumbs up to you. I know too many guys with Camaros who just see the word Camaro and think its the fastest thing in the world. I asked this one kid how many litres his was... turned out he didn't even know if it was a V6 or V8. I guess he didn't get that RS on a camaro means really shitty.

Umm, In case you didn't know, the civic is a fwd car.... That's 127 hp fwd..

Rep Power: 0 i beat an early 90's z28 camaro, i mean really kicked his aiisss but a couple of tenths, lets say sixth tenths, got the time slip, oh and its the time slip where i ran a 15.6 in the 1/4, that thread my brother posted a little while back, the new 1/4 mile time for the lx, pretty ironic that i beat that guy also.

Rep Power: 0 I've beat a 95 v6 firebird in a 5 speed. I've beaten a mp3 with intake, i've beaten an 89 prelude(most likley a stick), countless neons, i've gone nose to nose with a 97 v6 auto stang. My friends 95 integra with exhaust and intake i smoke the sh** out of. A 95 civic with exhaust i owned. Um yea i've had some pretty good races in my car. I lost to a saturn running with nitrous, that was unpleasent.

Rep Power: 0 I find the original post really hard to believe. My girlfriend has a 99 3.8 liter V6 Camaro which doesn't hesitate to "smoke" the sh*t out of my 02' EX any chance it gets. Perhaps you were correct in stating the car had mechanical problems. Or at least let’s hope so...

Rep Power: 0 I already said that I was surprised by the outcome of the race, and it was the best launch I have ever had. I don't know if it would make a difference but we started on a small incline. Added to that I knew the guy(who isn't the brightest person so he probably hasn't changed his oil since he bought the car) and I had never raced a V6 Camaro so I figured why not. I guess I need to start working on making a camera mount like S2000man01 so people will believe me a little bit more.

Rep Power: 0 my fiances brother has a 95 Camaro V6 5-speed with Magnaflow exhaust. We never got around to racing, but I drove that POS a couple of times already and its not all that fast. My guess would be that the race would come down to the driver.
hey ya'll. okay...so i'm actually usin my friends name on here for a split second to reply to this.
over the past 15 years there have been 4 different v6 engines in the camaro. the early to late 80's and early 90's had 2.8L v6's and 3.1L v6's. only the 90-92 'maros had the 3.1 though...the 82-89 had the 2.8. in 93 the camaro body style changed and so did the engine. the v6 was upgraded from the 3.1 to a 3.4L v6. the 3.4 ran in the base camaro until around 96. in 97, i believe that was the year, the base camaro got the 3.8L v6. the 3.8 is the engine that they used until the end of the production of the cars.
2.8v6 roughly 125 hp?
3.1v6 roughly 145 hp
3.4v6 roughly 160hp?
3.8v6 roughly 200hp
i don't have exact numbers on the 2.8L or the 3.4L v6's for hp but i know that the 3.1 and the 3.8 run those numbers at the crank. give or take roughly i believe 15% loss of hp to the rear wheels and you will find what they are runnin at the wheels. all numbers that car companies give you for hp and torque is at the crank...not the wheels unless otherwise stated.

EDIT: I used to own a 1992 chevrolet camaro RS (roughly 215 hp with mods and RS doesn't mean really shitty lol I liked it), and it was an auto.. Anyways, I raced a 3.4L Chevrolet Impala and I lost to it. I raced him again with my civic ex (manual) and i beat him so I know for a fact that our civics that are stock are faster than that 5.0 V8 (throttle body injection) so if it's faster than that 5.0 V8, (at least the ones with the auto trannys) then our civics definitely have to be faster than those 3.1s and the 3.4s.. It'd probably be a driver's race when it comes to the 3.8s though...

Rep Power: 0 I have beat an older 80 model z28 once only by like a half car length and he beat me by like a car length but it was a cool race!! his was an auto and mine a 5 speed so...about a month ago I raced an eclipse gst and i pulled him the whole way!! i thought he was going to beat me bad cuz of the turbo but i guess he didnt' know how to drive or his was just slow cuz i know another one that is really fast!! ne*way just thought i would add to this forum
