Beat a Civic Si
welp, id like to introduce myself- call me flipper. I have a 2001 5-speed Mustang 3.8L (v6). My mods right now are only a steeda triax shifter, 180* thermostat, cold air intake, and 245 Kumho Ecsta Supras. So as you can see, my car is generally still "a virgin".
Anyways, yesterday I was at a hot dog place down here in Miami. The owner of the place, and his son, use to have a 5.0 and would race it at the track and such. They continued on to insult me about my car being only a V6 and I took it and really didnt care, because I get it alot. However, as the son started leaving and I noticed he went into a new Civic Si, complete with the annoying fart cannon and altezzas he already put on.
So, i proceeded to pay the bill and ran out the door because it really pissed me off that he had the nerve to insult me that I had a v6 mustang when he had a little civic.
so he left, and i caught up, road was all clear and he revved at me. We were going 30. Then he took off and I took off. Immediately I pulled ahead of him. We only went at it till like 60 cuz there wasnt a chance in hell he was catching up. So we caught the light. He didnt rev like an idiot by kicking the peddle over and over, instead he got it to a steady RPM. So i actually know he wasnt an idiot driver to know that he can at least launch properly. Light turned, i nailed it, had him by about 2-3 car length for a little under a qm. Moral of the story? V6's arent slow like you think, and Civic Si's are nothing to be proud of.

i created this because of the large amount of threads of bs of you guys claiming to beat a 99+ v6 and thinking your cars are fast.

It's one thing to come in and give your .02 in an already started thread, but another to come in and come up with some story where you beat a civic Si. And your last sentence expresses your attitude completely. "civic Si's are nothing to be proud of". Right, and when you roll next to my S2000, your V6 is nothing to be proud of.

and v8's- 94-98 GT's...auto...convertable...no problem really...just about even. theyre not much. 99+ gt's take me by about 2 or so cars. however its not too hard to get a v6 up to par if not faster than a stock v8

So somehow a car that runs mid/low 15's at best can "hang" with a car that runs high 13's at best?

Considering that I am at the track at least 2x a month, and that so cal is the V6 mustang capitol of the world, I think I have some authority to speak in real world examples. The fastest *stock* 5 spd 99+ V6 I saw run was actually here at Carlsbad's crappy track. The driver pulled a 15.2@90.xx. I talked to him later and the only thing he had done were putting on a set of street drag radials, and he took everything out of his car (floor mats, jack, spare and what not). Whats the rest of the pack run? Everything between a 15.5 and a 16.5. Most of which now have those ubiquitous side pipes (errr... PIPE), and Im sure all the other basic bolt-ons (intake and what not). Could that guy have shaved off .2+ seconds to get a 14.9? Not with that trap speed, but Im sure someone, somewhere has done it. Hell, I have more then one video of a 99 Si pulling a 14.9 with just an AEM CAI and a set of drag radials. I my self Ran a 15.4 stock, and a 15.2 with an intake and better tires (Im sure me having the car for a longer period of time and getting used to it helped more then the mods). That doesn’t mean that 85% of the time I see people with more mods then that running high 15s, low 16s.
Whats the point? Yes a 99+ V6 5 spd can run low 15s stock. Is that still slow? Yes. Was that as slow as I thought? Absolutely. When you get into the 13s, let me know. Then you can actually talk like you have some *****.

And if the stang is a 5spd, yes it WILL beat any stock civic sold in america. then i hear crap about people saying, "YAH! WELL WAIT TILL YOU GET A RACE WITH A B16A2 MOTOR" or some crap like that. Wtf is that telling me? The guy changed the friggen engine. That would be about the same as me saying "YAH! WELL WAIT TILL YOU GET A RACE WITH A 302!".
just give up guys...drag racing is not for imports. leave that to the american cars- stick to what you guys are best at....autox and other handling stuff, in which i admit you guys easily out do us there.

gotta love the irony in that- i get my stock v6 and take it out once in a while to find a ricer out there to f--- with...he has $1000's invested in it and i race him and embarass him for not even able to keep up with my front bumper....its even better when he has his gf in the car so i can see her laughing at him when he does a ricer fly by a little bit later on

We can only hang with a GT through first gear. We can stay within a few carlengths of them then but once they hit 2nd they are gone.
I guess it could be possible for a slightly modded 5spd v6 to keep up with a stock auto GT, but I doubt it would be within 2 cars.

i raced a stock 99 auto once and i had him all the way to the end of 2nd which is when he started pulling on me n got aboue 2 lengths at the end. he told me after he amazed how hard the new v6's pull
how in the hell is that possible? does he not know how to push down on the petal 100%?

lol lemme clear this up- i had him on the launch in 1st....then he started catching back up through 2nd slowly, and as soon as i shifted to 3rd he jumped on me....i dont think he powerbreaked that well though, so im guessing thats why he didnt have a good launch

The only way that is going to happen is if some uber gay retard wanted to make an all show and no go car. However this is true of pretty much all cars, with the V6 mustang ranking right up there. I cant remember the last time I saw one without altezzas or some other gay modification. Shiet, if I spent my life savings on making a toaster oven faster, i could break out of the 15s.

A) I paid 16,500 for my Si, but this is a 2000 remember. the New 02+ are going for way under sticker, around 15,500-16,500.
B) The Si is the top of the line model. Unless you want bug deflectors or chrome rims, there are NO options.
C) My car doesnt exactly resemble a "grocery getter" either, your moms or not. I also agree that the newer design is inferior, however thats what people said about the 99 mustang back in 98. Yea, think about that.
D) I spent $600 and change to run a 13.95@102MPH. Whats your point? Mid 14s... pfffff.

As for the original post, I will say BS as well! To say a '99+ V6 is can hang with a '99+ GT is just retarded. For example: '99+ GT = 260HP 302tq, 232-240rwhp 255-265rwtq - '99+ V6 = 190HP 230Tq, 150-160rwhp 190-200rwtq. Thats is about an 80rwhp/65rwtq difference! The V6 is not much lighter (maybe 100-200lbs AT THE MOST). That combined with a more robust powerband and steeper gearset is WAY TOO MUCH for any stock V6 even for 2 car lengths! No matter where you are in a race, the GT is ALWAYS going to pull on the V6. 1K in mods is not going to get you ANYWHERE near the 80rwhp/65rwtq that you need JUST TO HANG! Sorry, but unless you are packing some MAJOR mods (i.e supercharger/turbo, LOTS of nitrous, rearend, fuel, etc.) all your going to be seeing when you race a GT are taillights!
i drive an 02 si, and my mother drives a (v6) 99 mustang. I know for a fact i can hang with it if not pull on it, becuase i have before

I bet to differ. My 'lil 1.6 liter NA 4 banger was running low 15s stock. how many V6 mustangs are doing that as well with no modifications what so ever?
