i have launched in D and D3 and then slapped myself in the face for it. its all the same!!! i dont know why you people think that shifting from D to D3 is gonna make it faster, guess it makes you feel like your driving a stick or something but its no different, D3 doesnt have any magical gears, its the same gears as D hence they are both the same. the only way your gonna feel a jolt of power is if you get nitrous. just leave it in D or if you like D3, and just stomp the gas cuz its not like your gonna win anways.

the only reason d3 is better is simply because when you're rolling and want to speed up, you dont have to wait for the tranny to drop to 3rd.. so the throttle is quicker to respond

in a drag, there's no difference at all

because from 65-100 takes a long time to achieve..this is where civic is slow

-will this damage engine? I've been doin these tricks since I bought car in aug.2001 >no problems so far<
lol is the car still working?

I have serious doubts that punching it in D3 will be any different than D4, but i will try it sometime. Sounds like some people claim it waits a little longer to shift gears in D3, but it does seem like it to me. Just there cuz 4 is a tall gear and doesnt do hills well, so it prevents excessive shifting on hill roads.

lol both those methods of take-off will end your tranny pretty quick. If your gonna race your auto, just punch it and hope its enough, otherwise you wont be racing for very long lol. :-S

d3 and d are the same except d3 has no 4th gear. i use d3 all the time when i have to get up a hill or in spots where 4th gear just wont keep the car going fast enough.

Re: Guide to drag racing in an automatic (v. 1.1)

I'm glad to see someone make a thread taking racing an automatic seriously, "Buy a 5 speed" is not always an option available, and doing what we can with what we have is what street racing starts with, doesn't it? I'd rather drive my automatic Civic than a 5 speed Focus or Cavalier any day, even if I have more potential to win a race in a 5 speed.
