Well it redlines 1500 rpm below ours, and the spedometer stops 30mph below ours, i know the sped. thing dosen't technically mean anything, but still. And after riding in the one I want to race, it really dosen't feel a whole hell of a lot faster than mine, if at all.

No BSing, but I have raced a late model in my Vic. It was funny cause we were on a route that has alot of big curvy turns. On take off I had em then he left me, on the turns I had him 2 car lengths straight way he had me 3-4 car lengths. Every time a turn came up I would eat the turn and leave him... lol stangs are fast but dont handle too good..... But there is no way you will beat a stang on a straight way, hope you have a couple bottles in your trunk...

Yeah the one I want to race is a V6 convertible, and I really feel like I probablly can take it, but I thought I'd ask in case my *** was really going to get handed to me. Its like 2000 or newer I think.

This thread deserves to be locked. No matter how much people talk bad about Mustangs being crappy cars, that doesn't mean your 16 second Civic can beat it... because the Mustang is not a 16 second car, it's a 13 second car. Get over it... there is no Civic with just i/h/e that could take a Mustang.

But now that I think of it, there was someone who did race an auto Mustang in his Civic and got his *** handed to him.

It's just a Civic.

Oh yeah, search next time, newbie.

I don't know about the newer models, but I used to have a 1988 four banger mustang, and that car was slow as sh%#. If I was going uphill my car would actually start to slow down, and there was nothing I could do. It went from 0-60 in two weeks.

The V6 Mustangs aren't that fast. They'll probably beat your Civic, but not by much. The GT or Cobra will eat you alive, however.

Yeah, I know that our Civics aren't fast, but what the hell makes you think a Mustang is faster? Just calculate both of our weight/to power ratios, and THEN factor in the gear ratios on the Rustang.

Yeah the V6 Mustangs weigh close to 4000 lbs., which pretty much negates their hp advantage. If you have a pretty decent driver on a manual EX, you should be able to keep up with a V6.

No, they'll still beat a stock Civic. To reclairfy my post, that guy who raced a Mustang raced a V6 and lost by quite a distance. The 13-second ones are the V8s.

Stock Mustang GT's will do the 1/4 mile in about mid-14's. They're not that much faster than an RSX Type S - the GT's extra weight negates a lot of the hp advantage it has. A Cobra R, on the other hand will do mid to low 13's easily.

I have actually drag raced a V6 Mustang. He pulled a 17.2. The best time in my car is 16.8. The night I raced him I pulled a 17.4, but with a better RT I beat him to the line. Both being autos it will be very close. Any good driver in a 7thgen Civic w/ a manual trans should be able to beat a V6 Mustang w/ auto and possibly manual. My wife drives a V6 convertible Mustang (auto) and I beat her by about .5 seconds.

the old 4 banger mustangs ran about an 18.5 second 1/4 mile... the new V6's run low 16's high 15's.. So pending Driver someone in en EX could win.. if it's V-8 stang tho..forget that..not even with Nitrous would you have a chance

The new cobra svt's do the 1/4 mile in 12 seconds. I bet you could take him if you put a Type R sticker on your car

V6 stangs are slow. my friend with a 6th gen civic beat one with only i/h/e and cams. i'm pretty sure i can also beat one with a good start, i wanted to race the guy with the stang but after he lost to my friend he got scared and din't want to get embarassed. GT stangs aren't that fast either, i'd rather get rsx-s, they are quicker. now V8 stangs are fast, they'll blow almost any civic away.

it depends. a pre 99 V6 automatic convertable would run 16s on a good day. a 5 spd 99+ can and will run low 15s. a new 99+ automatic? high 15s.

BTW I need to kill you for saying

"Well it redlines 1500 rpm below ours, and the spedometer stops 30mph below ours, i know the sped. thing dosen't technically mean anything, but still. "

Thats the most retarded thing ive read in a LONG time.

my dads 2001 svt (modded) cobra does low 12"s .. prolly does high 11"s now .. cuz we just added that new x-pipe exhaust on it ..!! i'm thinking of trading in my 2k1 civic to get a svt cobra too..
that thing can go.!! but i'm also thinking about the downside of having this car.. the mpg.. the insurance....

Do pigs fly?

2003 Ford Mustang Sports Convertible
V8 4.6L
390hp @ 6000rpm
390 ft-lbs @ 3500rpm

2001 Mustang GT
V8 4.6L
260hp @ 5250 rpm
302 ft-lbs @ 4000rpm

2001 Mustang STD
V6 3.8L
193 HP @ 5500rpm
225-ft-lbs @ 2800rpm

2000 Mustang GT
V8 4.6L
260hp @ 5250rpm
302 ft-lbs @ 4000 rpm

1999 Mustang GT
V8 4.6 L
260hp @ 5250rpm
300ft-lbs @ 4000rpm

1998 Mustang STD
V6 3.8L
150hp @ 4000rpm
215-ft-lbs @ 2750 rpm

1994 Mustang STD
V6 3.8L
145hp @ 4000rpm
215ft-lbs @ 3200rpm

1990 Mustang GT Convertible
V8 5.0L
225Hp @ 4200rpm
300 ft-lbs @ 3200rpm

That's a list of some v6 and v8 mustangs. I think the only mustangs civics can actually win without trying is the early 90's LX mustang Inline 4's which only have 88 hps , but other than that, given a straight line, 1/4, 1/8 mile race, the torque alone is enough for the mustang to win, regardless if some of the v6's only have 145-150 hps. They're max torque comes at a low rpm range also which is a plus.

Cobra R run mid 13s???...must of been the crappiest driver in that car or something...those things pull high 12s...an i dunno about the 99+ V6 Mustangs being slow...my buddy keeps on getting his handed to him by my friends 99+ automatic V6, my friend has a 2K2 Civic EX manuel with I/H/E...everytime the V6 gets him by at least 3-4 cars...an he got my other friends automatic 2k1 EX by at least 5 cars at the track.

what about a Type S Vs. Mustang GT?

its pretty obvious a v6 mustang.. anymodel would beat a stock civic..

i seen a 95 svt cobra at an auction recently.. supercharged.. alot of mods.. i sat in it.. had to be fast as F... a 5.0 Supercharged..

but i am into foregin cars.. just my style.. and i'm sure most of yours... they last longer and are built better.
