Autocross STF class em2 or dc5?
Hello everyone!
So I'm in an '04 em2 ex which I'm currently selling to get a manual transmission car, but right now I have two choices for the Street Touring Fwd class in autocross within my budget, but I'm hoping for some advice from some who have experienced both a manual em2 and/or base RSX. (I'm not going for the Type S because the base RSX has usable torque)
So here's the factors that go into this...
In this class you're allowed...
-225 width tires (140 tread wear)
-Lightweight wheels
-Coilovers
-F&R sway bars
anything else will be marginal performance increases... (intake/exhaust, racing seats, etc...)
The differences between the cars...
A VP or LX em2 ~2400lbs.
A base RSX ~2700+lbs.
em2 - 115/127hp 106/115ft/lb
RSX - 160hp ~140ft/lb
Rsx has a slightly longer 2nd gear
Will the weight difference make up for the hp gain in the rsx?
Thanks for any advice, suggestions, and opinions!

leeet me see...
you run SCCA and sometimes NASA (which I am unfamiliar with)
remember that the EX trans are shorter, so by going to VP/LX (which actually are not EM2, if memory serves me well) you might be loosing some acceleration, plus the 3->4 valve system (which is better than the LX type, which I owned before the current EX).
the RSX have the K series that in general responds better to the engine mods allowed in ST class. however, the base K-series was not as good as the RSX-typeS.
also, not completely sure if this is some weight distribution or chassis stiffness, but in stock form the RSX is more oversteer prone, which could scare in the slalom but a ton of fun at the autoX.
considering that you will get a worse pax, but the base of the car is better and responds better to mods, I would have choosen the RSX in your case. I bought mine and then started running, so my bond to the car was already done... and got 2 more miatas, so if I bought another car it would be either a 4WD or an older Honda instead, though (cheapest double wishbone you can get, what to not to like? )

Yea, really want to get competitive in SCCA autocross though, thanks for the info! Just curious do you recall how fast 2nd gear will go in the LX civic? A redline at about 62mph is what I'm looking for and the rsx seems to top out right around there from what I've seen.
Really might have to try for an RSX now though, especially the info regarding oversteer. And also, the pax for the 01-05 civic and the rsx (both base and Type-S) are the same. Right now people are running base Minis and the Mazda3 at nationals for the class, so I'd love to build a Honda that can hang with them!

The gear ratios you have listed for the Civic HX are in fact not for the Civic HX but for the Honda Insight (2000-2006)!
Here are the gear ratios for the 2001-2005 Honda Civic HX 5-Speed Manual:
First 3.461
Second 1.750
Third 1.166
Fourth 0.857
Fifth 0.71
Reverse 3.23
Final Drive Axle Ratio 3.842
I got these numbers straight off the Honda website..
