Stupid noob question about drag racing

I don't own a honda, but I've been going to the strip for some time now and have been wondering about this for a while. There are a bunch of pretty quick hondas that run at the track, deep into the 11's and 12's, but I consistently notice that almost all of them wait until bouncing off the rev limiter a few times to shift. I don't really understand why, to me it seems like it would only hurt their time. But like I said, I own a cobra, so maybe there is some benefit that i don't know of. If anyone wants to fill me in, i'd love to know why. Thanks guys
