civic lx vs mazda 6
civic lx vs mazda 6
i live 7 miles from a unversity and the street is a pretty much a straight line so i get a race or 2 every week. i figured id post one, let me know if its to slow of a race to post.
i was going back to campus around 10 at night (was going about 45-50) and i see a guy in a mazda 6 coming fast behind me, so i downshift in 3rd and floor it. he floors it too and i stay a little in front of him i shift in 4th and there is a high speed curve coming, i take the curve at about 95 without braking and i see that he brakes a little bite so i get 5-6 car lenght on him. we arrive at the light but we are behind 2 cars so wee cant race(he looks mad, he doesnt even look at me). 2 lights later we have a free road so he starts reving his engine. i get him a little on the start about 3/4 of a car, and he pulls at the end of 2nd, in the middle of 3rd gear we stop racing because there was a train track with a turn. he was about half a car in front of me.
i tought it was not to bad for a stock 02 lx. (i just got new tires so i had no spare tire in the trunk)
he had after market dual exhaust.

having driven an auto civic, and an auto 6 (4 cylinder), i'll say that both are slow turds, til the corners. then the 6 really impressed me far more than civic, it didn't feel as big and heavy.
4 and 6 cylinder mazda 6's look verrry similar. badges by the doors are the easiest way to spot (not the exhaust, same on both). i do note you never claimed it had 6 cylinders, which is good. nice kill, i find it 100% plausible, and you launched better, thus the edge early. then .6L took over...

it could have been the 4 banger, but i dont know if they have dual exhaust.
these are the specs for the mazda 6 V6 on edmund:
220 hp
192 ft-lbs
3300 lbs
0-60 = 8 sec
1/4 = 16.15 @ 87
slalom = 63.1
i dont know how fast my car is, i never found #'s for the lx (8.6 ish...)
i thought it would be faster than that too.
his car was moving a lot when he was shifting (i dont know if that means anything)

jeese those times SUCK. our times are around the same with almost half the horsepower.
ok and our cars weigh like around 600 pounds less. well ****. next time i see a V6 6, ill just have to give it a run.

16.35@85 for the 2001 ex on autoweek.com
i ran my lx at 17.6 at 3500 ft elevation which is suppose to = 16.9 at see level.
i had old tires and my car's weight was 2800 pounds with me in it.
so i guess it is possible to run in the 15's with V2 headers and exhaust. (VAFC??)

rsx type S = 14.9@95 (although i never heard of a stock one going in the 14s)
wrx = 14.6@94
cobaltss = 14.6@99
when i say that -maybe- it is possible to run in the 15s h/i/e. i mean 15.9999999999999999999 (with the wind in your back)

yes, depends on the drivers if he's at 4 cyl mazda6, but still, mazda has more chance to win due to mazda has more powers and torgue, even it's little heavier. because i drive the mazda 6 at least twice a week, i can feel it has little more power than the LX. And. you can't keep up with mazda 6 if it's 6 banger, especially from a roll, or the top end. they are not at the same league.
