Gota Hemi?

Last night my friend and I were driving down a three lane road when a Hemi Magnum pulls up next to me at a light. The light turns green and we both begin to rapidly accelerate and then with a massive squeel of the tires this damn thing just takes off. I missed second and at this point he had 2 cars on me . He shut down and so did I. So we make it to the next light and I am sure that I can do better if I did not miss second and could get into my topend a bit better (did not expect to win, but thought that I could atleast do better than the first run). Light turns green and we both evenly launch and then he takes off like I have never seen before. By 75 he has atleast a football feild on me and is still pulling hard. I then notice that it has an SRT emblem on the back . We get to the next light and my friend gives him a thumbs up. When the light turns he proceeds to give me a similar thrashing to the last. I did some research and now they make a SRT8 version of the magnum that has 420+hp!!! I have raced mustang GTs and GTOs that would not even compare to this thing, it was a complete beast. What the hell will they put Hemis in next vans??

Hemi is more of a marketing ploy nowadays. it's not even really that efficient of a design. regardless, dodge is putting bigger and bigger engines into everything they can.

laugh now, but 350 horsepower minivans aren't far off. as if soccer moms need more road rage abusing horsepower.

Yeah, If the van that my parents use to have when I was in highschool would have had 350hp I would have been a bit more eager to drive it to school

i have 2 friends that both work fleet for dodge. they have str8 models in the 300c the magnum and the charger. all have 425hp. but the price tag is rediculous. for the magnum its like $70k for a srt8. but none the less they are fast as shyt. but i dont htink youll see any of them beating a 550hp srt10 truck. they dont put the srt10 viper motor in anything but the viper and the truck.

300C SRT-8: 12.56@111mph stock

http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50114

The SRT-8 cars arent cheap, but they also arent $70,000. Roughly $40,000 for the SRT-8 Magnum.

the srt-8's are limited edition the msrp is about $40k yes but that is not the sales price. if i repeat if you can find one you will pay about $60-70k. as i stated before i have 2 friends that both work fleet for dodge. guess what one of them is a daughter to the owner and they both are seeing each other. i hear both ends of their pains and the owner has a srt8 magnum along with a few other toys. but they are selling for about $70k give or take depending on the dealership. they are only making a limited supply of them so all dealers are bumping the price substantually. if you figure most luxury cars that produce that much power and handle as well are priced just the same and that is what dodge was trying to achieve when developing these cars. they wanted to creat a luxury sports version vehicle to compare to other luxury sport manufaturers. remember when the evo's were released and every dealership wanted $10k more than the sticker. same deal!!

Dodge had a turbocharged engine in the Caravan back in the day. i think it ranged from '86-'90 or something. they basically used the same motors as the turbo'd mitsubishi eclipse

The HEMI to clarify with s2000man isnt a hemi anymore. The new HEMI engines do not ahve hemispherical heads.. thats how the engine got its name. The new Hemi engines are not Hemi's at all...

Ohh ya, they are sticking a hemi into everything - go figure- dispersing cost of the engine among many models and using it as a marketing ploy at the same time. Good idea!! now only if they can be as clever as toyota and sell a million box's with wheels... Scion XA or is it the AB , whatever...

It was the SRT version. And since I live in Toledo (major Dodge/Jeep plant) it may have been higher up employees (i.e. engineers) that got to play for a night. The SRT10 truck is not all that fast it does weight ALOT more than the magnum and I belive it runs mid-low 13s. The car that I ran was faster than a SRT10 that did a fly-by on me some time back. Infact by my caculations (distance he had on me by 75-80mph in my and based on the conservative assumption that with a friend and crappy winter tires I was running mid-high16s) he was running high 12s-13 flat. So whoever quoted mid 12s I would say is accurate

Just to reenforce the statment that I made above about SRT8s being faster than the SRT10
SRT10 truck 6350lbs/500bhp= 12.7lbs/hp
SRT8(magnum or charger) 4200lbs/425bhp=9.88 lbs/hp
The SRT8 will work an SRT10 truck over pretty darn good. The SRT10 truck in no way even compares to the vipers:
3300lbs/500bhp=6.6 lbs/hp

Not trying to start anything, just trying to avoid a debate (I seem to get banned everytime I get involved on one lately LOL )

For a Civic racing a HEMI car good luck.It won't even beat a HEMI truck at 6600 lbs.As for the SRT8"s the turboed civics wont stand a chance, and the SRT10 Ram truck will beat a normal 5.7 Magum,300c or Charger. Some of you's live a sheltered world You can certainly tell who are the car guys in this thread.

Screw those Hemi trucks and their mullet wearing owners. Here in Ohio everyone and their hick brother has a Hemi truck of some kind weather its one of them riced out Daytona or Rumblebee editions. I have now officially lost count on all the a--hole Hemi truck drivers that challenged the grocery getter at a light!!! "You know my truck has a 345hp Hemi right?" Couple guys actually asked me that! I then proceeded to ask them "You know i have two babyseats in the back right?" They all thought that was pretty funny until i was waiting for them at the next redlight. They usually say something like i cheated cuz my car is debadged or just a nice big middle finger. The Dodge commercials have given them asshats big ego's.
