what motor does that thing have in it? its a gmmotor right. is it an ecotech motor?????? if so then yes i can be a nice powerplant but being that it is a 1.8l i question if it is a ecotech because most ecotech's are 2.0-2.2l

It is 100% Kia. 1.8L t8D motor. Page 5 on my cardomain has a lot of detailed engine photos. Hyundai owns Kia now, but not at the time my car was made in 2002. the 2004+ spectras have the Hyundai Beta 2 motor in them. the 2.0L from the older Tibby's with a different manifold. the new Rios are hyundai motors.

I loved when i trolled those boards, i got a couple of people beleiving me that i beat out a ek9 turbo with my "kia".

I go on the boards again and find out he fastest the little ****** have gone up to is 120. and i quote "that thing had my knees shakein..." hahahahahah

heres another story to start the day off with a nice laugh...
"well i just got back from a car cruise up to the mountians and i must say it was a blast. We started out with about 40+ car ranging from WRX to EVO's to 3 gen RX-7 to MR-2's. they also had a couple of 240's and 2 that they made into silvia's. they broke off into 2 groups 1 fast and 1 slow. i went with the fast group because i dont like to be last but thought i would because most of them are either turbo'ed or supercharged. they pull away in the straight aways but i was able to catch up and stay ahead of some of them. the work i did on the suspention for far has made my car handle great but i think i need some more work to make it better. just writting this to say that to rio suspention is great once you put some time in it."

the rio's are lucky to hit 120, so if they do its quick for them. with an older intake and cat-back ONLY, i hit 140mph @ 6200rpms. The potential to go faster is there, especially now. That was over 2 years ago too, and thats on video as well. I will agree it gets old after awhile troll back and forth, but what can ya do.

GM owns daewoo. The chevy cars in asia are rebadged daewoo's. It also one of gm's only profitable brands.

Kia is owned by Hyundai and Hyundai is its own independent company, but does participate in some part sharing programs with GM for certain cars in international markets.

What the hell are you smokin.He wasn't even trying.I own a GXP and it is doing now at the track a 13.78 @ 101.53 and my top speed on the highway is almost near 155 MPH.That'll be the day a Kia with bolt ons is going to come near a GXP.

^^ lol 1st I have more than bolt-ons...
2nd, the GXP makes 303hp (crank rated) and weights 3600lbs, and is an auto. thats over 1000lbs more than my car. stock it runs a 14.6 in the quarter. This was a stock model. my top speed is near 155 as well...So where do you imply a kia will never touch a GXP ? lol and he was trying, we went up to 130 before he let off, and he caught up to me to race me. the highway is where i would have the most advantage. of the line torque always wins.

i might be speaking for alot of people here it is gonna take alot to impress us. come on it is a kia and we drive hondas. me everytime i see a kia i just shake my head and laugh(personal opinion). you short of having to put a jet engine in your car to me itll always be a kia and i dont care if it is faster than mine at least it isnt a kia. im ian and thats my 2 cents

i am not trying to impress anyone. its my car - for me. But saying that means nothing...its a kia yes, so what? i have heard that comment from everyone for just about everything, "yeah, but its still a... kia...honda..neon..chevy...ford...blah blah" so what? that gets old, and hearing it from someone whos car is in the same category and is slower stock to stock (equal drivers)...makes it even more irrealevent. i think you guys are giving to much hate. The kias are fine for the money you pay. All the kia and hyundai haters who drive hondas forget that in the 70's, people said the same thing about honda's. The first civics would die after 50k on the motor, but people accepted it because the cars were so cheap to buy. Who knows in 30yrs, people might think differently.

Companies like Honda and Toyota aren't afraid of ford or GM. There afraid of companies like hyundai, kia, some of the chinese auto motive companies and even indian. They said on edmunds that this indian automotive company is planning on selling a car that costs $2000 in the United States in the next 5yrs. Those companies are using the same methods honda and toyota used in the past to beat out GM and ford. Why do you think Toyota started scion and why honda is bring the fit and jazz over?

I say give credit where credit is due and keep the hating to yourself. Props for the kia for trying to make a slow car fast.

Where do you get 14.6,I have not seen another GXP run less than a 14.2. We also have TapShift to hold the revs just like a Manual

I never thought the day would come comparing performance from my GXP to a KIA. Should be for some good laughs at the track next weekend with the camaro and corvette boys.

I'm not here to start anything or flame anyone but doesn't it seem a bit childish to knock any car just for their brand before you even know what is done to it? I know Kevin personally. He is my business partner and is not one to gloat but in the same respect he does have a swift car. Is it fast? LOL!!! No. Is he in the 14's? EASY! To me thats not fast. If I were to guess on numbers currently untuned I would guess that he's right around 150-150. His car weighs a little less than 2500lbs so the power to weight ratio is pretty good. It's a fun little highway car.

On several occasions we went out. When I had I/H/E/SS it was back and forth between us due to gear ratios as you can see in the one video. When I went fully bolted I had maybe a car at most on him.

Every encounter we have had with N/A civics were slaughters. I'm not saying there aren't fast civics but particularly the 7th gen civics never stood a chance in any model with any N/A mods. Even many Si's (mods unknown) would not win when we would all go at it. I'm not saying anything bad about Honda in anyway but in my relations with them they are not fast N/A unless we are talking motor swaps in older hatches.

I have worked on Honda's as has Kevin with me and I have been impressed by SOME of the numbers put out but never overly impressed. The horrible thing in my opinion is the cocky attitudes coming from a large portion of civic owners. The cars are not special performance wise in my opinion. This obviously is an outside unbiased opinion which will not go over well with you guys and thats not what it is about but the facts remain.

Do I think Honda is a nicer car than Kia's? YES!!!!!! Do I think they are superior performance wise when comparing a 7th gen to a Kia Spectra? LOL!!! HELL NO!

Oh and I own a aftermarket parts company and drive a Sentra so it's not like I'm coming from a board to troll or anything and I hope the members here can take this post with a mature outlook. Any car enthusiast knows what I'm saying is true.
