Raced our Diesel truck haha
Well recently my family purchased a used 2001 F-350 Powerstroke Diesel with 200,000 miles on the clock
. Me and my younger brother decided to take it to the track to see what it would run. The only mods on it are Napa filter, and a Diablo powersport tuning thing with it set in economy mode (50-60 HP). Ended up running a 16.5 @ 83 MPH with a 2.46 60 foot
against a modded 6th gen which I smoked haha . Evidently, your supposed to launch these trucks in 4-wheel HI and you can easily pull of a 2.0 60 foot or better which we found out on the Powerstroke forums. Next time we should be in the mid to low 15's once we learn to launch it better. Not bad at all for a 7000 lb truck with the boost turned down in economy mode.

Yeah, we want to crank the boost up to around 30 psi but we need a larger exhaust and downpipe to keep our EGT's from skyrocketing. Its amazing how fast these 7000 lb trucks can go.
My 2001 F350 4x4 ran a 14.3 with 110k on the clock. I had an adjustable chip with a custom program from overboost diesel, 4" DP, and 5" exhaust. I was running about 29psi... the stock turbo couldn't take much more than that. I wish I still had the truck.

200,000 miles on diesel is nothing, I know people with over 400,000 miles on their trucks, and about 390,000 of that was pulling a 15,000lb trailer. Those power stroke motors (the 7.3L) are amazing.

I had an automatic that I launched in 2wd.

Yeah we don't have a LSD rear end so when I floor it on the extreme tunes, it breaks traction easily. They are telling us to launch in 4-HI and keep it in 4 wheel drive the entire race. Im afraid its going to break something going close to 90 mph in 4 hi... but hey thats what all the forum people say to do so we might try it.

What kind of 4WD doe sit have, is it the shift on the fly, or does it have a lever inside and does it have lock hubs?
I would be affriad personally to run 4WD, I've heard running 4WD on dry is bad, but maybe a 1/4 mile isn't enough to hurt anything
I don't really know much about 4WD drive systems other than the shift on the fly is not a s strong as the old fashion type.

Yes it is NOT shift on the fly. They told us not to do it if it was shift on the fly because it is weaker then the old ones. Our car you have to lock to hubs and shift the lever inside the cabin.
I know that most of the drivers launch in 4-HI and run it out to the end. Takes off some mph, but makes up for it on the launch. I always was leery of breaking something so I never did.
