s2000 vs STI....

I had my brothers STI out today. Brand new with exhaust, headers and intake mods plus some pulleys I believe. Some middle aged guy pulled up next to me in his new s2000. Sounded like he had some work done to it and he had some extra guages so he must have had something. He looked over at me revving his engine which I thought was pretty gay. Off the light he had about 1/2 car length then the turbo kicked in on the STI and smoked the s2000 by about 6-10 car lengths. Now I know what car I want next, I just have to round up about 32k which is not bad for this car. This thing is damn fast. I like the s2000 but it is not a family friendly car with only 2 seats and a puny trunk.

o really you have headers? Thats cool what brand are they? I wonder why the sti lost at the start with awd and 0 to 60 in the 4's. I didn't know they made headers for the sti i have heard of a turbo manifold but not headers so let me know what brand it is.

And yes there is such a thing as a V4. Saab had them in the 70's. Here's a pic.

woops....

Boy I feel like an idiot with the headers . He has something upgraded with the exhaust, maybe an upgraded manifold. I know it was not cheap. I think the reason why he pulled off the line is because I suck at stick. I have been driving auto for like 3 years and I have not driven a stick in about 3 months or so. Once I got it into 2nd, it was fine. The problem was off the line for me. I believe it has the boxer motor in it. The thing is fast though and handles very well. The stock tires suck though. Needs something a little bit more sticky. He has not taken it to the track yet but his buddy who has an 04 sti says it runs in the 14's stock. Is that true? My brother plans on upgrading the turbo and lowering it some. To be honest, the thing is fast already.

Are you serious? You call Bridgestone potenza RE070's sucky tires. I don't think so.

oh ok..

Well I guess I will find out next weekend. The track was closed this weekend due to the weather from Hurricane Dennis. Next week they are doing a test and tune at moroso so they are bringing a bunch of cars down there. One of his buddies has a 89 crx which supposedly does low 11's to high 10's. I don't know what he has done to it but I can't wait to see. I love seeing imports beat on disgustangs and vettes at the track. I will take pictures.

Oh yea they suck. From what I heard they are an OK daily driver but don't hold up too well in hard driving. Plus you will be lucky to get 20k miles out of them. This is what I heard. From what I experienced, they don't hold up too well going hard around corners.

lol look up and wave because the joke went way over your head.

he was making fun of the fact that he said his brother got headers, when there is no such mod since the turbo requires a turbo exhaust manifold.

you'd have to be running a lot more boost to pull this off against even a stock S2000. and seeing as how you obviously don't even know what mods your brother has (headers? um, no) my guess is he has a lot more than you listed. An STi without a launch will put maybe 1-2 cars on an S2000 to 100 at MOST. your brother's car should be a 12 second car. STi's can run low low 13's stock, but that's because of their ability to run 1.6-1.7 60' times stock. Their trap is about 100-102 which is exactly what an S2000 traps at, which gives you an indicative way to rate their performance at a roll.

please ask your brother exactly what he has and list the mods. we'd all like to know!

no need to flame this guy but he just sounds like he really dont know too much about cars so he's trying his best to describe the race and the details on each car to us...thats cool man...yeah STI's are fast man...let us know what your brother runs at the track

ok ok....

first of all I only see my brother about once a month and I do not know too much about the STI, just that they are fast. I already admitted above that I was wrong about the whole header/manifold thing. He has some upgraded manifold I believe. Don't think I am bashing the s2000. I like them a lot but they are not practible for someone who has a family. I would not call the STI a family friendly car but it has 4 doors and a decent size trunk. I also suck at stick which is also why he probably pulled on me at the light.

wat s2000man is saying is that theres no way you would have beaten him by that many car lengths
unless the other guy really sucked at driving, ie more than you.

must have unless he just backed out since he knew he was going to lose. This guy thought he was the shiznit though at the light. Revving his engine with the top down and his hat on backwards. He must have been at least 45. This car must have been his mid-life crisis car. I know he had exhaust since it was pretty loud. What does a stock s2000 run in the 1/4? It could be possible to beat him by that many lengths if his car was stock with just exhaust and the sti was worked on a little bit. Tell me this, on a 1/4 run, how many car lengths is there in a 1 second difference (ie. My car runs a 13.5 and my opponent runs 14.5, how many car lengths would it be between the 2 cars).

an S2000 runs high 13's stock. not as fast as the STi, however, if the STi gets beat off the launch, it could lose to the S2000 in the 1/4 mile. it'd be close. a LOT closer than 6-10 cars.

10 cars is about a .5 second difference in the 1/4 mile if the cars trap near the 100mph mark. give or take.

my guess is the guy let off after he beat you off the line, and you just kept going. there's not really any other way I can see this being plausible.

either that or your brother has a LOT more done than what you posted.
