Hybrid ownage
In addition to the Hybrid discussion, the Accord Hybrid also does something that other Hybrids do not...they have an engine management system that shuts down 1 to 3 cylinders so that you make more efficient combustion and better mileage. Although normally a 6 cylinder Hybrid would be counter productive, around town the Accord Hybrid will normally run under only 3 cylinders at light load. Acceleration is good because initially, the full 6 cylinder engine working has great torque to get it moving. The efficiency band of the Accord is more at cruising speeds on the highway, and driving around town normall under 40mph.
By comparison, another thing to add in the Civic Hybrids favor is that it does better at passing on a highway from 50 to 70mph because the way the IMA differs from the Prius HSD. That's one instance where Honda has an advantage over Toyota in their Hybrid engine design

makes so much sense though (when we're worried about fuel efficiency, etc)....

haha even cooler is the fact that when you come to a dead stop with your foot held on the brake, the engine completely turns off. saves gas while you'd otherwise be idling.
I have heard of someone who has drilled the HAH to 50 mpg without modifying the car. The person loved it and thought that with some practice and minor efficiency mods that he could get 60 mpg on it for short trips.

ford explorer has a hybrid option. an SUV that gets 30MPG? not bad.
I have both the HCH and the FEH. I love them both. I drive the HCH about 115 miles a day to/from work. I have a lpmg of 52.1 and am currently working on a twelve tank string that is close to 60 mpg.
We are getting about 34 mpg on the FEH, with a lifetime of 29.5.
While there are differences in the Prius and HCH that have been pretty accurately decribed earlier in this thread, the HCH is a 'normal' looking vechicle. In addition to getting great mileage, the car handles well and accellerates nicely.

We actually went over how hybrids work today in school and got to ride around in the toyota prius. Those cars are bad ***. I wish all cars had an integrated starter alternator that would shut the car off when at a stop.
