Ralliart vs. Prelude... VIDEO (finally)
Awhile back, I posted a thread about how I raced a prelude and sI coupe. Alot of people gave me hell for the prelude story, I got a lot of BS PM's and negative feedback for it, which wasnt cool... thankful thou s2000man01 fixed that for me

In the 2nd vid towards the end (you can barely see it) he lets off at about 95mph where I had almost 3/4 of a car on him.

in round 2 you got the jump which gave you that lead lol
but I would like to hand youa friendly suggestion which is this....
Learn to launch and you'll be infinitely faster then you were in that video

I suck at launching, I need some tips to help me, dropping the clutch and slamming the gas gives me sooooo much wheelspin, I could dig a hole into hell if I wanted too. Your good at drag, give me some tips?

Haha, if you both had launched at the same time you would have been done for
preulde>you
preulde>you
on the street u shouldnt rev it any higher then about 2500-3000 rpms when ur launching. In the video that i posted i launched around 3k and smoked that other kid with the si by a bus lenght...
prelude>you
prelude>you
wow, still hate...duh... i lost the RND1, but I won RND2. Yes, I revved to high, im still learning, im a average stick driver.
Who ever got the launch, won the race, we raced (off camera) 3x... i got the luanch 2x and won, he got the launch once and won. As you saw (on camera) RND1 he got the launch and won, RND2 I got the luanch and won.
for -38hp and +6trq, id say I did quite well. Much better than the sI coupe/ep3 that he raced that night and smashed on them both quite easily.

LOL I would say the same. On both counts!
The prelude was catching up during the 2nd round even though the other guy had the jump, but it looks to me like the prelude shut it down before he had a chance to pass.
I can only give you generic advice cause I've never dragged a civic since ours is an auto.
there's 2 ways you can go about launching
dumping and feathering the clutch.
also you'll find out that everyone has their own opinion on what works. What you wanna do is practice both ways and see what you like best. Then you work on different variations of it until you get the best results and stick to that. cause in the end YOU are the only one taht can teach YOU how to launch your specific car.
even on street tires I launch over 7,000 rpms using the dump technique. most people call me crazy though lol but it works. other people feather the clutch from 3-5.5K rpms.
no matter which method you choose you're going to have to learn throttle control which you don't have now. learning the proper throttle pressure is hard for some people to learn but IMO is the most important part of launching. It's not a video game where you have ON or OFF. every lil bit of throttle counts.
hopefully that helps a lil.

the prelude would have won the second race if it were longer and/or you didn't get the jump at the begining. yeah and on launching i think your crazy for dumping the clutch at 7k. i did that a few times at the track once and broke my axel. It was not fun.
Launching at 7k isn't crazy its just plain retarded there's no way that could posably produce good results especially on the street on street tires that's just a recipe for a massive wheelspin... Geeze what do u drop it at for a burnout 9k lol

like I said throttle control is a VERY important part of launching, especially when dumping the clutch at a high rpm. Some people are talented enough to learn it and some people will never quite pull it off. I never take my car over 8,600 rpms so no I don't drop it from 9K
I'm also the only one on ANY of the celica boards that's been able to pull 1.9 60' times in an N/A celica and I dump from around 8200 - 8300 rpms using the same BFG g-force tires that most the serious celica people use. obviously I'm doin something right. on street tires I pull 2.1's easily. 2.20's at the most. every so often I'll run a high 2.2 on streets but thats about it. you should take the time to look into peoples claims before you attempt to insult them. You've been around long enough to see how much my times have changed cause I always post vids and new times and stuff. hopefully we can keep this thread on track and not turn it into a flame war cause I've been ther edone that and nothing ever gets accomplished except pissin off the mods lol but I've got plenty of proof and arguements should you choose that route
hopefully we can keep it civil though
I like this video cause you can hear the launch perfectly and can actually tell each step I take if you listen closely. the 60' on that run was 2.005 and because of the 25 - 30 mph head winds that day the overall time was not quite what it shouldve been so ignore that lol 14.02 @ 94 mph is not an easy thing to do
I usually trap 100 - 102 mph there http://www.everythingcelica.com/vip/...smustanggt.wmv
also where in Socal are you from horror??? I've never seen a ralliart in person so maybe we can make a vid or 2 since I'm back to stock right now
me and a few other people from here are planning a trip to irwindale so if you're down here close enough I'll keep you posted on when we're gonna go

yeah seeing as how my car only revs to 6750 so yeah i guess I could never pull it off in my car... i run constant 2.2 60'fts launching between 3-4k on the crappy *** stock street tires so its not to difficult to pull off...
sorry FLAME MAGNET
never been to the track, so it makes me a bit nervous... i get that "parkinson disease" in my leg... lol.
I might be going to ontario tonight for the street runs... if you wanna meet up PM me, maybe I can meet you @ the mills.

Hummm...
you have a very big contridition here. You say the Prelude is an Si. the Prelude Si has a SOHC VTEC motor rated at 160hp and 156 ft-lb (number vary a little by year), not 200hp. The Prelude VTEC has the H22A with 200 hp (220hp in some versions), and it clearly says VTEC on the upper right hand side of the trunk and in no place should say Si. So if you raced an Si, then you where about even for power, so it becomes a drivers race, which from the sounds of it, it was a drivers race. So I'm gonna say you didn't race an H22A 200hp Prelude VTEC.

Ahhh.... I watch the vid (slow down loading).... it's an '01, I was thinking it was an earlier one than that. All the '01 had the DOHC 200 hp, my bad.... sorry.
Nice vid
Nice vid
haha I avoid ontario like the plague. all the ricers come out once it gets dark and I don't get invovled with that stuff. I NEVER take my car to the illegals.
if you only wanna do it on the street I know some places where I always do my test vids at. no x streets or traffic and it's 1/2 mile long straight away.
the track isnt so bad. the biggest thing that happens is you find out how slow you really are lol people always claim to be faster on the street cause there's nothing to tell you that you're not
plus the track is legal so no worries of gettin in trouble. Also the people at irwindale in particular tend to be rather friendly so theres always cool people to talk to and stuff. Just gotta hope you don't run the uys with the 6 second bugs & pintos lol

I limit at 8,600 and 7,000 which is 1,600 rpms before limit.
so it would be the equivalent of someone launching at 5K in your car. You're acting like it would take an act of god to pull off. lol
here's a few more facts for you ....(I'll keep it simple)
there's a thing called a powerband. in order to pull off your best times you will need to spend as much time in this as you possibly can.
my celica power band is from 6,000 rpms - 8,000 rpms. so even though I may pull the same 60' as someone else I have much more momentum comin off the line and I'm sitting at a higher rpm which means I am out of my power band for a lot less time. a gt-s actually has a bit less power then a gt before that 6,000 rpm mark so staying above it is VERY important.
thats why with drag tires I launch over 8,000 rpms. I NEVER drop below that 6,000 rpm mark.
**note - I run a different ecu then stock
a stock ecu celica can't launch over 7,100 rpms cause there's a neutral rev limiter. also the powerband starts at 6,200 rpms not 6K. it's raining right now so aint gonna happen tonight
but I'll give you a ring tomorrow afternoon and we can work on a date/time.
you'll be the first person I've raced from this forum lol except for johnny g's M3 but he doesnt count cause it wasnt intentional. we ran back in november the night before I went to the hospital and we both ran horrible 14.2's @ 100 mph lol

when i race i dump the clutch around 2,500. The trick i think it letting off or getting on the gas while ur spinning to get grip. For example my **** will spin, ill let off the gas a LIL bit, and then as soon as i get grip ill floor it back down to redline no more spinning, and i don't even bog out of anything when i let off. I heard its a diff story when ur turbo tho...I'll just have to learn when i ge tthe kit on, mwahaha
^ turbo can be done the same but it's not a smart idea. especially if you're runnin drag radials cause you're pushin alot more hp and torque so the risk of damaging your tranny or your axles is much higher.
also you'll want to change your shifting as well. if you shift normal you fall out of boost so you'll want to get better at shifting without letting all the way off the throttle. like anything else it'll come down to practice once you get the turbo on
