so what if people reply with wondering how a civic would fare in the same scenario.

and dont say ill get him in the twisties because neons also out handle civics.
yes the car was crapy quality wise but at least respect the performance and what we have been able to do with them for normally half the cost of what you do to mod your civic.
I actually like to hear about civics that are fast because that means the builder actually did somthing right.

and in the "twisties" the neon gets owned there too. look at the auto-x results for d-stock. civics beat neons all the time and the majority of the time.

^ to support that, right now in SSC (Showrooom Stock C) the Civic Si's (99-00?) are the top dogs... (Same class as the NEON ACR) Though it should be noted that in the early to mid 90's the ACR was one of the better Showroom stock Cars.... But then your looking at a car that came with Koni Adjustible dampers Stock, with Sloted struts to allow for massive camber changes Stock and a whole lot of other Race specific parts "Stock".... Dodge basically built the ACR to be a club Race car.. (ACR stood for American Club Racer) where as all the other cars were actually the same ones you would see on the street. (Dodge didnt really advertise the ACR, in fact if you werent in to Club racing, you'd probably never know it exzisted)
Some Nice photos from the 2004 SCCA runoffs (National Finals) of SSC http://www.theracesite.com/index.cfm...e=pa&pa_id=490
For autocross... a few years ago they made a decent G-stock car (ACR only)... but ever since the Late modle Celica GT and the mini Cooper showed up they are mediocre at best..
Once again, Its important to Note that the ONLY neon thats been fairly sucessfull in motorsports was the ACR. And as noted earlier; Dodge built the car specifically for Racing (Club or autocross), and Dodge backed it with a Generous Contingency plan, which probably bosted its popularity in club racing and probably its success.

the facts are indeed on your side about the neon acr, but isnt that the same with the si? isnt the only really sucessful civic the 99 00 si? I know the new ka motors are not really stepping it but inthe past the performance model civic is the only sucessful one just like the performance model neon. So in the end nieth maybe superior but really there about equal? Yes i admit iw as wrong saying the neon is superior to the civic but i was getting pissed off, but really there prolly more of a close match than anything else.

I wouldnt really call the ACR as an equivelant to the Si... and I dont mean Equivelant in performance, as they are pretty well matched cars on track. I mean they arnt equivelant in their designed pourpous. simply because the Si was designed as performace Street car and the ACR was designed specificly with Racing in mind. But maybe thats not what you ment.
as far as the only really sucessefull civic being the 99-00 civic... well if you keep to Showroom stock then ya, its the only one. Extend your view in to improve tourning... and alot more civics and civic based cars (CRX) show up. Note that the older Neons have just been legalized for Improved touring this year, so it will be interesting to see how they perform in their respective classes. All in all, from its inception the Neon ACR has proven sucessfull in alot of the racing its leagal in, but you have to realize... Dodge had to Specialize the chassis in order to pull it off. So, an ACR is a good track car, but to say that the Non ACR neon is a good track car because of it would be incorrect.. Because Dodge had to change alot of parts to make the Neon a Good track car. Now, If dodge came out with an SRT-4 ACR.... that would be a car I'd have to seriously consider..... But I can tell you I wouldnt want it for my daily driver (The old ACR was pretty much a rattle can on the street....)

Funny annicdote from last nights meet, I was talking to some frineds about the SRT-4, and One of them mentioned that the SRT-4 reminds them of the old F4 Phantom.... Not so much because it was fast or any thing, but simply becuse the F4 was Proof that with enough thrust, even a brick can fly...
