Am i right?
Ok heres the deal. I have this buddy who has an 02 cavalier ls sport 4 spd auto. he kicks my a$$ every time we go at it. i too have a auto. I want to know what a 1/4 mile auto runs vs a 1/4 manual ....say stock just for example. Am i wrong to think that a 5 spd would beat him with a good driver? Am i right in thinking that the power isnt distributed as well with a 4 spd since the gear ratios arent as short....so a 5 spd the power is distributed better which would give better acceleration? OR AM I WRONG? someone please enlighten me.
How bout this.........put a auto vic and a 5 spd vic at the line. Who wins and by how much.

5 speed vic will slaughter a auto vic
Last year we installed a CAI on my friends auto EX (127hp). We were driving back to his place, him in his car. Me in my 2004 5-speed VP(115 hp), he tried to do a flyby on me. I downshifted matched his speed and pulled away from him no problem, he was flooring it the whole time. He already had exhaust on also.
Also i used to have a 2001 auto EX with I/H/E and it ran a 18.34 @ 75 mph, I ran the 2004 VP in the heat of summer and pulled a 16.7 @ 86
There are usually 2 reasons why an auto is slower than a 5 speed.
1) Gearing
2) Power lose, it takes more power to move the internals of an automatic transmission. So in the end, an automatic will get less horsepower to the wheels as opposed to a 5 speed with the same engine.

hey thats alright dude.... when i first got my 5sp lx coupe (first stick car ive had) i raced a cavalier like u describe... i bogged second gear and he pulled ahead then i had to backoff for some idiot on a bike... i know my car is quicker and if i did it today id woop him miserably but i still feel crappy about losing that one

. It would have to be a back road though I keep coming close to getting caught. As long as there are no cops and we can run next to one another. I have my winter tires on and can hardly get traction on dry pavement so we will have to wait until it is dry. Should be by Thursday if we don't get anymore snow. Just you though I am not doing a three way with that cavi that your buddy has.

ya auto with no real work done for gains is soooo slow, i/h/e dont help any i dont even count thows as real mods any more for a civic personaly.
us auto owners need a turbo fairy. you buy an auto and the next day you have a turbo kit under your pillow.

. Those guys no nothing about that type of thing. All they can do is fix cars. If you really want to do it I could help. It is not to hard. Just takes a good chunk of cash
