Me vs. Old School Mustang
Ok
Disclaimer:
I have an 02 M/T Civic EX with just some random brand Intake
I haven't raced on the street since I grew up and sold my sentra
Last Night was my last night being a bachelor.. so i figured what the hell
Anyways...
Me and my soon to be wife were heading back from our wedding rehersal and we live out in the middle of nowhere. the cool thing about it is there is a 4 lane highway that leads out there that is always baren (just completed, not many people even know) when i turned onto the highway, some 60's model mustang passes me, then slows down next to me. He's sitting there next to me just revving. I'm just like... i'm driving a civic... not to mention his goofy assed friend is bobbing his head at me. We are just over 70 by this time and i'm like fvck it. I drop it into 3rd and take off starting about a door length behind me. Not more than a second later you can hear his car take off. From the top of third to mid 4th (i think) he had fallen back to my rear bumper.. we were doing a little over 100 when the road started to curve.. so i stop. So he does that oh so commom "fly by i win" bs. i think he was pissed because he just kept trying to get me to go again. I was like fvck that. i was lucky to not get pulled over the first time.. i didn't even figure it would be close. Oh well it made my day..
Oh does anyone know much about those mustangs? It looked to be late 60's early 70's? it sounded to be v-8 but i don't really know. It did have dual exhaust. (yeah i know that doesn't mean ****) thanks to anyone who can fill me in
(falme away)

Could have been a V6, but then again some of the low hp V8's weren't known for top speed, especally if it was a 3 speed auto. Was it a notchback or a fastback?
If it was this (1969-70):
You raced either a V8 302 (220hp) auto, or a 250 V6 (155hp) 4 speed.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you raced this (1967-68):
You raced a 289 V8 (195hp) auto or a 200 V6 (120hp..unlikely you would have raped)
Pony cars werent known for top speed. And with Mustangs you didnt get any real power unless you got a special edition like a Boss, Mach 1, or a GT, and even then, they werent known for top speed. My friend raced a 68 GT in his 1995 Prelude and was smoked by a few car lengths.

Those things were heavy... It probably would have been modified in order to handle well, and like mentioned, they weren't that great at high speeds.
I6, not V6.
It sounds like an old 289 car. The only reason you should have taken him was if the motor was stock with a lot of miles backed by an auto that didn't downshift. But heck, if the idiot wanted to run and you left him, it's still your win and his loss.
If you want to see what an old mustang can really do, swing by Sears Point next Sunday and watch me run...

remember that in the 80's cars like the mustang weren't exactly made fast. in fact, they were quite slow in stock form by today's standards. largely in part due to the gas crisis.

That one is a 67-68. I knew they had inline 6s, I dont know what I was thinking.
Probably just a 289 is what you raced. Not much power. But there is a common misconception about old mustangs and most muscle cars. They are NOT that heavy. A 67-70 Mustang weighs in between 3200-3600lbs. Just as heavy as todays stang, if not a little bit lighter.

do any of you guys wach full throtale on the history channal, they did 2 69 mustangs with new intake mani, carb., header "catless" and exauhst, and one put in a new cam and they both ran 16's in the 1/4. not very impressive so the way i see it a stock civic could take a stock 69 stang.
every year there is this car show that comes to my small *** city. It was all crazy as they have one night for the show, and the next night for the cruise. Well the night for the cruise is just an excuse for everyone to race i guess, cause i was dropping my sis off downtown at some concert and a lot of roads were closed. on the way back i see this street and two old people are sitting in lawn chairs at the corner!!
so i ask them whats goin on and they tell me. cops all over. people just keep moving to different spots and racing. it was insane. so i was downtown and i call up some of my friends. So my friend is following me and this extra KLEEEEN stang like that pulls up. hes like 40-50 years old with his wifey with him. we both take off at the same time, about from 30. he stomps my a$s and we both just laugh. Then when i get out of the car later, my friend was like "dude, that stang got you by like ten cars and we didn't even get up to 80.
