A friend of mine has an 03 2.0 GLS Jetta. While his car is not faster off the line, he has many times passed me up when it comes to top speed. I've witnessed this on numerous occasions. More then a couple times on the freeway late at night my 02 EX Sedan tops out at around 120-125 while his Jetta just keeps pushing on by.
I like you! do you like me?

I drove a Jetta like that when test driving cars. I never thought a car could be slower than my vic, but I was wrong
You have to floor that car just to keep up with traffic. omg sooo slow.
You have to floor that car just to keep up with traffic. omg sooo slow. The MK4 (1999.5 and newer) Jetta 2.0s are slow with just bolt-ons. They are extremely underpowered for their weight, and overpriced which is why I now drive a Civic. Now a MK3 (1993 - 1999) with basic bolt-ons would walk an EX all day long. I know this because I used to have a 97 Jetta that ran high 15's with basic bolt-ons. The MK4 should be able to run mid to high 16's with basic bolt-ons and a good driver.
EDIT: This info is based on the manuals, not the slow-matics.

You should be able to switch infront of him with no problem by the end of 2nd...A distant cousin of mine owns a 2001 model (I think) and I was able to do that. On launch I was like oh ****...that car is strong, but then once I hit 2nd I starting gaining. Oh yeah, Im completely stock too.
