Angry 1/4 mile times too slow?

hey everyone well i went to the track in march and i have a 01 ex coupe 5speed w/ dc 4-1 headers, aem cai, and magnafow catback exaust and i took out my spare tire and system and only ran a 16.8? wats up with that is that normal? i dont consider myself a bad driver. i am about to get a exedy clutch kit and a test pipe on my car so hopefully i can improve wat do yall guys think oh yea and a top speed of 79mph in the 16.8 1/4mile if that helps and when i went to nopi i saw a celica gts run a 16.8 so that made me kinda happy anyways yall give me some info thanks

high 16's is about right for the auto gts

would help if you posted the whole slip.

alot of people dont consider themselves bad drivers. However, the track tells no lies

most people new to the track have problems with the launch. post the #'s from the slip and I'm sure someone can help you figure out what you did wrong

You think that's slow? Try doing that in Denver at 5800 feet. The air is so thin you only get 80% of your power. My best run was an 18.224 at 80.1 mph. I think it's my launch that's suffering. Need to work on that some more.

16.8 @ 79 .. Depending on a couple things. How hot was it? Also have u ever raced at the track before? Did you red line each gear? Please post your whole time slip can help us out figuring out how to help you.

i shifted about 200 before redline but i never left off the gas my friend told me its faster that way so i gave it a shot and it would hit redline by the time i got into the next gear so i would be redlining 3rd at the finish

1 redlines around 32
2 redlines around 58
3 redlines around 88
4 well I have not redlined it yet I been 115 mph still had rpms.
Either your taking long time to shift gears, or your mods are killing you.
Stock I run 16.3 @ 84. That was the first time I took 5spd to track.

yea my 3rd gear redlines at 85, best i could do at the track was a 16.8 but that was with 17's . I switched to stock 15's and ran a 16.4. I think my mods are killin me though. I have AEM CAI and HKS HIPER. What exhaust pipe size are you guys running that are getting the high 15's and low 16's? best 60 foot time was also around a 2.4 and lauching at around 2700 RPM by just droppin the clutch. Any advice????

a LOT of it counts on your tire pressure how soft or hard your tires are how much surface area is at the ground plus not spinning your tires but bringin it right to the point that they want to....
my bro has an integra type r putiin 210 at the wheels and he pulled off a 14.5 cus he has no clue how to drag but he is awsome on speedways

17's are slowing you down. keep the 17's on the back and use 15 stock wheels in the front. and keep the front tire psi at like 20-25. you should see and improvement. this goes for both you guys.

Do you still this would help even on the stock firestones? Or would a heavy 17 on decent tires still be better?

I'd say 25 psi is a lil high. 18- 20 would be best IMO.

also you might want to look into the elevation of that track if there are a lot of cars running slower then they should.

If you want to go fast you'll need one of these :

Seriously though, you just need more seat time at the track to work on your shifting and launch. Good Luck.

the bigger the rim over 15in on the front the slower your car will go. I know i have seen enough cars at the track to know bigger the tire slower your car gunna go. so 17s in the back 15s in the front. reason why i say this car will angel forward putting more weight on the front of the car.

detroittosag has a little shameless behaviour in the past
not really 17's are heaver than 15's period.. it has nothing to do with the profile.. it's just plain and simple heavier.

some people like running their econo boxes. Especially ones with f/i ;P

well, you could always work on your launch. Perhaps you aren't shifting fast enough? ... if you have crappy tires, I would not recommend keeping your foot on the gas, especially while shifting to 2nd (mad chirp)

or perhaps your setup just isn't a great setup ...
