It shouldn't.

If your engine starts to rev while you're adjusting, you've gone too far. Let it off a bit, until the gas pedal becomes a hair trigger.

he (the civic)'s an automatic.

Even an auto 1.8T or VR6 is still going to be a 16's car, and an auto civic isn't in the 16's.

An auto civic? Yup.
A 2.0L Jetta? Yup.

An auto 1.8T... low 16's... but i'm not that sure..

An auto VR6 jetta? Nope.. The only MKIV 12v VR6 tested by a magazine was a 16.0 @ 88 run in an AUTO jetta wagon, which is about 100lbs heavier than a sedan as well. This was car and driver, sometime back. They've since blanketed all Jettas as running that time, except for maybe a new test for the GLi, which I haven't seen yet.

Even 5-speed "2.slows" are BARELY very high 16 second cars. 115 HP is just not enough for a 2,900lb car.

My manual EX feels quick in first, sencod and third gear. How fast is a manual EX to 60mph? I know in the 1/4 miles its a 16 second car.

the 1.8t and vr6 vw Golfs are pretty fast. I'd imagine the auto/tiptronic is quick as well.

It's probably somewhere around 8 seconds for a 0-60. VW 2.0's are somewhere around the mid high-9's.

Here's a very quick (and probably very flawed) little table for 0-60 compared to 1/4. Now, gearing, torque/HP curves, and weight all play different factors, and it'll vary car-to-car..

0-60 1/4

3.5 -- mid - high 11's ('97 911 turbo, Mclaren F1, Enzo, F50)
4.0 -- low 12's (Ferrari 360, Newer Vipers)
4.5 -- high 12's- low 13's (Diablo's, Z06 vette, Esprit V8 turbo)
5.0 -- low 13's (Corvettes, SS camaros,
5.5 -- high 13's, low 14's (s2000, stock supra, RX7)
6.0 -- 14's (WRX, new Accord V6)
6.5 -- high 14's- low 15's (Eclipse GST, Celica GTS, RSX-s)
7.0 -- low 15's- mid 15's (H22 prelude, Jetta VR6, 1.8T, GSRs)
7.5 -- high 15's - low 16's (older Accord V6, older Si's)
8.0 -- low-mid 16's (5-spd civics, NA 4-cyl eclipses, new Si's)
8.5 -- high 16's (various automatic domestic schoolteachers, del Sol non-vtec)
9.0 -- low 17s (various automatic 4-cylinder imports)
9.5 -- mid 17's (Jetta 2.0L, some Kiaz, diesels, hybrids)
10 -- 18's (Kiaz, hybrids, yugos)

I included some example cars to give just an idea. I don't intend for it to be very accurate. If you ran faster in your stock _____, congrats...

Does a mazda 3 fall in the upper category or lower category?

2.3 L - upper

2.0L - lower

Some people will argue that the 2.3L is a little heavier, but it still has a higher HP/torque rating. I think the magazines put it at 15.8 or something like that, but I've never seen one race at the track.

Automatics, farther down.
