Neon SRT4... interesting
Last night me and my friend alan (who drives a stock 350Z) were cruising around and ran into someone he knows with an SRT4. They had actually gone to the track that day, and the guy had run like a 13.8 or something yesterday stock. Well he wanted to run Alan so we went to a place to run. (there were 2 stock SRT4's)
First run was from a 25mph roll. The neon started in 2nd, Alan started in 1st. (this will come into play later) I was behind alan, and the other SRT4 was next to me but about a car ahead of me, behind his friend. 3 honks and everyone took off.
This is the funny part. Alan won and pulled in front of the guy shutting down around 100mph. I started in SECOND gear at 25mph (which you all know I should have been in 1st gear, since 25mph 2nd gear is pre-vtec) and the SRT4 only pulled about a car on me. However, once we got above 60mph I started pulling and catching back up. AND I had the top down, so the drag was making me slower too. Funny, but I thought in stock form the SRT4 was supposed to be faster than that?
After that race, the guy was bitching because he said Alan was supposed to start in 2nd, not 1st gear. lol. ok you start at whatever gear works to be fastest, and if you have to be in 2nd in your srt4 at 25mph then so be it. lol. They then ran from a stop and again, Alan beat him and the guy made up more excuses about how Alan "anticipated" and launched too soon. They launched at the exact same time, and they even had it video taped. However, he seemed to have no desire to "prove" Alan went too soon by showing the "proof" on the video tape.
Alan also told me they think S2000's are slow and that they can easily beat them. I will be certain to have to prove them wrong.
Later on I ended up next to the other SRT4 at a stop light. We are sitting there and the light is JUST about to turn. I'm thinking we are going to roll out and just go since the guy has given no indication otherwise. Suddenly just as the light turns, the guy revs up and launches. Way to go spanky. I push the clutch back in, rev up and dump it, but of course by this time he has 2 cars on me and is already going. By the end of 1st he has about 3 cars on me. I start to catch up to him through 2nd and cut his lead back to 2 cars. I start to pull even more in 3rd and so he shuts down at 70mph. If he'd have gone faster I'd have passed him. He has this big grin on his face as if he thinks his car is faster. I'll let them think that for now.....
However, I'm certainly going to make sure I put them in their place next weekend. And I'll video tape it myself as well.

I guess the SRT-4 owner really does not know much about his car. 2ed gear is their best gear. That gear has the most pull for them and the turbo tends not to lag as much as it does in 1st and 3rd. In first they get a nice take off but i found that those cars tend to not grab traction as well as others. In third they begin to experience major turbo lag and dont do as well in high end parts of races. However if those cars end up doing a stage one upgrade, the race might change dramaticly. All in all it does come down to the driver though.

Not as much as in Road courses, but in Autocross Horsepower is overrated. So I have no problem seeing an ITR out running an SRT-4 on a road coures, as well as in autocross.

I guess if you could throw a piece of **** down a quarter mile strip in 15 seconds or less, then you'll have riceboys and fanboys worshipping you too....
In the end the S2000 is just a nicer car...regardless of whether or not the SRT-4 can out accelerate it. The S2K is a track proven, well balanced car where the SRT-4 is a damn Neon with a good motor. Yawn...

on average the SRT4 will run a 14.1.
But yea SRT4 owners are most likely the dumbest out there. I visit SRTforums.com on a daily basis. And recently the coolest thing to do is compare the HANDLING of the SRT4 to an Evo 8. They believe that with the all mighy mopar stage 3 coil overs they can outrun an Evo on a road course. NOW they are trying to compare they're accerlation to the 2003 Cobra.
Nice Kill (at least i consider it to be). NIce to see someone smack down the redheaded SRT4 stepchild.

Well we can't say all SRT4 neon owners are dumb, because that's a generalization and I have met one or two cool owners. And of course the RSX boys are going to say don't bother.... their cars run maybe 14.8 at best stock, and an SRT4 can run around a 13.9 at best. You're talking an entire second of difference.
As for us S2000 owners, we aint afraid of a stock little neon.

i just outran, more like outdrive, two srt-4 at willow springs this sunday. they pulled up to me like crazy on the short uphill short away and fell back about 8 car length after half a lap, which is about 0.7 miles

Thats why I like Real racing.... it seperates those that just buy a car to be fast and those that actually drive to be fast....
Thats also why I dont care what the SRT-4 can do in a 1/4 mile. I've seen them run autocross both locally and Nationally (A STU car and a CSP car) Nither was impressive...
I can post #s if you want proof.

I don't think anyone will argue that the SRT4 is NICER than an S2000, but if you're gonna race someone, you can't lose, then turn around and say "but my car is nicer".. that's like losing at Monopoly and then saying "yeah, but I can run faster!".
Maybe the SRT4 guys were jackasses.. I'm not defending them... a drag race is only one aspect of a car... if you're racing for some sort of pride, or to prove that one car is "better", that's dumb... your **** doesn't grow when your quarter mile gets shorter.

Ummm... weren't the SRT-4's rated at doing a 14.2 as the fastest time stocK??? and S2K's run a 13.9 outta the box??? Maybe i've been misinformed, but at that rating an S2K weighing in at much less than an SRT-4 and having 249HP as compared to the srt-4's of 2003 coming with 215 HP and the new 2004's have 230Hp rating... so how is there anyway that they would ever think of even beating a stock S2K out of the box? i'm just puzzled at these idiotic acts of SRT-4 owners... i mean they are fast cars and are also cheap.... but they aren't that bad *** outta the box...
