gf's friend's story
Ok, my gf's been talkin to this one guy who says he's going to get a dodge dakota, and THIS particular dodge dakota can take on my gf's evo 8.
i'm like...what? i dunno how true this all was, so i look up the info of the dakota. He claims the one he's getting is 5.2 liters v8...and on the websites i find, there's a v6 model, a 4.7 liter model, and a 8 cylinder 5.9 liter model....so what is this 5.2 liter he's talking about? is it older version?
I ask him about the specs, and he says "it has ALL THE MODs than an engine can have" so I was thinkin, built internals, port polish, decked, fully blueprinted n stuff, but he says "its got custom intake and magnaflow exhaust", and I just bust my *** laughing on the floor. He continues saying its got 350 horse power (dakota site says the 5.9 liter one has only 250 hp), so 2 bolt ones give 100 hp? FOR REALS!?!?
lastly, he says "dont forget about positraction" ... and i've never heard of this term before so i ask him what it is, and he says its a " [quote]special[quote] differential" ... and goes on to describe it saying it has 4 gear pinions....the whole time i'm thinkin...isn't that an LSD? ANyone know what the hell this positraction stuff is?
I tell him the evo8 comes stock with LSD's, and AWD, and he jsut says "my 350 hp, and positraction and 4 wheel drive will own your evo"
i've looked up some more stuff on the net, and the fastest dakota i saw was the 4.7 v6 model, SUPERCHARGED, INTERCOOLED, and N20'ed... and it got 14.6 1/4 mile. Don't evo's run 13.3 stock? If he gets the car, and its supercharged, i guess its possible for a 5.2 liter to run a 11-12 sec 1/4 mile, but if its just bolt ons like he described, there's no possible way!!

I always though Positraction was a simple term for "Two Wheel Drive" Like on older mustangs, camero... So two wheels would power the car instead of just one. ? correct me?
evo8.... nice. Is it red?

i hate guys like that, some guy at my old high school has a stock truck(2002 dodge something v8) and said he could be my civic even it i spray nitrous(had only nitrous in highschool no turbo yet). I was like bullsh*t, he was claiming to run 14's but then during high school drags he pulled off constant 18's in the quarter mile. Everyone at school just laughed their *** off at this guy and I ended up racing him towards the end of the school year and smoked him by a gap so big i couldnt even see him in rear view mirror but he still talks sh*t and claims to run 14's lol
Limited slip differentials use various mechanisms to allow normal differential action when going around turns. When a wheel slips, they allow more torque to be transferred to the non-slipping wheel.
PosiTraction transfers torque from the wheel that slips to the wheel that grips. Actually, both wheels turn together; it's just that one tire slips while the other one bites in.
97-99 Dodge Dakota 5.2L V8 230hp
The only Dodge Dakota that makes 350hp are supercharge and running nos. There are Dakotas that run low 11sec. Intake and Magnaflow exhaust will only run high 15sec

since he doesn't have nitrous nor does he have an SC, and positraction is used to help the car TURN better, i don't think the evo will have much trouble smokin this guy's ***.
i hope he'll shut his trap after he gets his dakota handed in the ***. I dislike ppl like him, but i HATE ppl who lose, and STILL continue to talk **** as if nothing happened.
THose of you wondering, the evo is silver.

He's not going to take the EVO. .
Posi-traction is a term used, short for positive traction rear end, which is pretty much the same thing as 2 wheel drive. Mustangs and Camaros back in the day wouldn't come with 2 wheel drive, so when you got on it you would basically spin circles, because only 1 tire would be spinning. So you would get a "posi-traction" upgrade so that both tires spin evenly so you can take off better.
Next, even if he had the power that he was claiming, you would still rock his world, because even with "posi-traction" his truck would be burning tires and you would be all grip and go.

Damn right. Posi Traction would give those Mustangs and Camaro's better grip because they have the power to roast the tires at will.
What is 1 wheel drive with 225 hp and 300 Lbs of torque in a stock 1988 mustang?? Posi traction didn't come with either, they came with limited slip differentials. Posi Trac means both tires at all times, that means around a corner the inside tire spins faster because of the solid axel.

I say tell him to race for cash and tell him you will have a chase car video it. lol
also convince him you researched and found out his psoi will give him the advantage off the line. lol If he's stupid enought to race an evo then hes dumb enough to think he could take it off the line. lol

BTW, I took an evo off the line, in 2nd and third, forget it. It's just crazy torque off the line,a fter that, it aint ****. I barely beat a 16 sec mustang by a car length. I'm pretty sure dakotas have no high end like my truck does

Yeah, a good AWD launch is insane to watch. While getting a ride in an STI, the driver was waiting to turn right on the highway, and the lane we were going to turn into was pretty packed. There was a small break in the traffic, and he started to rev it up. Now ive never owned a fast car myself, so Im thinking he's gonna pull out and get smacked in the *** by the mini van coming in the lane.. He threw it up to 3.5-4k on the tach and just let it loose while turning onto the highway. No wheelspin, no screeching, just my head pinned to the seat with a grin on my face and butterflies in my stomach. I watched in the side mirror as the lights from the minivan came closer then just faded away. Lesson of the day... AWD rocks!
