Cool Racing The Si

Sunday night a bunch of my friends and I are going to go out to the drags to go race. One of the guys who is going has a 02 Si. It is "slammed" (I think he heated the springs) and he has rims. I thought that he had an intake but he just has a filter on his stock pipe. I am thinking about asking him if he wants to race when we get out there.

My mods are: Topspeed CAI
Topspeed Muffler/2.25 piping
Megan Racing 4-1 Ceramic Coated Header
Megan Racing Hi Flow Cat (downpipe+hi flo)

I had a blowout on one of my YOKO ES100s yesterday, but discount tire gave me a used tire so that I can put one of my good ES100s in the front and put the bald one in the back. But this won't hurt performance at all just having one different tire in the back?

So who do you guys think will win Sunday night?! Do I have a good chance of taking this guy out?

K series engines pull like crazy in comparison to the D series. Not only do they rev higher, the DOHC is nice putting their hp numbers way above ours. Granted you do have mods, those will no where near equal the hp/lb ratio that he has. I say go for it, but do not expect to win.

With your mods, you are probably are somewhere in the 145hp range, which puts you down ~15hp or so. However, his car weighs 200lbs more, right? AND, very importantly, he has rims. BIG MISTAKE assuming that they are probably not lightweight 15's or something but judging by the fact that he has heated springs, he probably bought HEAVY 18's or at least 17's which will slow his car CONSIDERABLY. I say that your weight advantage and his rims make this totally a driver's race assuming you are manual. Anyway, good luck.

No way is he at 145 whp the whp difference is a lot bigger than 15. Rims means he has new tires which are way more sticky than the stock firestones. That would mean he could launch at a higher RPM. Also the gearing is a little different i think.

i don't really care about drag racing. but for road racing, the em2 has a great chance against a ep3. it'll be down to the driver for road racing

Nevermind about the races tonight, I f*ckin' crashed my car yesterday.

Some people just don't know how to drive. And they just don't signal, whiched caused me and three other drivers to slam into eachother because this lady wouldn't signal while trying to cross a intersection. I ended up slammed into the back of a Tahoe. My headlights are broken, my hood is bent all the way up, and my bumper is f*cked. Other than cosmetic damage, I need a new alternator, fan, and radiator. I tried to see if my car was drivable just now and it keeps losing steam and dying out on me. The lights dim, car bucks and shakes, etc.

The worst part is that it is going to cost a grip to fix from Honda.

So yeah guys, "Man Down"

Yeah, she got a ticket. I thought that I was going to get one too because you know how cops can be d*cks. They could have said something like "You were following too close". But they didn't, so I'm satisfied.

Other than cosmetic damage I need a new alternator and Battery (or at least to get it recharged) for sure. I'll have to take it to a body shop to get it checked out. I am kinda nervous about taking it to Honda to get it checked out.

145 is too generous, even for crank hp numbers, ive seen dyno sheets for an EX with intake, header, catback, and that netted 5 hp, so, that 132 hp. ok, so you have a high flow cat, id say no more that 2-4 hp out of that. youre lookin at about 135-137 hp MAX.

anyway, sorry to hear about your car

Thanks man. Yeah, I think that 145 is about right for crank hp. But I think that you are right on the money for 132hp on the dyno.

yo i test drove one of those si and i was not impressed. yeah it had more power and was a cool ride but i really didn't feel the pull i was expecting. keep in mind they have 33 more hp than the ex, but the motor is about 75 lbs more heavier and overall the si is a heavier car.
its all about weight/hp ratio

also keep in mind when you test drove it, the motor was not broken in correctly...

and i highly doubt you took a brand new car for a test drive and pushed it to its redline.

ask anyone whos driven one and they'll tell you...once the motor is broken in, the Si drives great.

7000 is pretty well broken...i assumed you were driving a new one...thats my bad.

BUT...its still not as broken in as it could be...i'm tellin you...ask an Si owner with 10k + miles on it and they'll tell you, it gets better w/time...like a fine wine hahah

i know my si isnt all that and a bag of chips...but i LOVE it. i get a little peeved when people knock it, but havent tried it. sounds like youve tried it...so i'll just say everyone has their own opinion about it

and i'm not a kid!!! hahahah

I remember last summer when I was looking to get a civic with my Father. We were looking around the lot, checking out all of the Civics, then my Dad pointed out at the Si and he said "how about that one?" Then I said "Hell no!". He replied "Why not? It is the top of the line, and they are sportier?". But instead of taking the Si I took home my little EX. All I was concerned with back then was "looks." Yeah sure, I wanted to race like most teenagers do, but I just couldn't see past the outside of the Si.

After a couple of months I started to become curious about the Si. So I went to the closest Honda dealer, and I took one for a test drive. Even though my only mods at the time were a intake and muffler with piping, it felt the same in speed as my own (Yeah the salesman let me punch it in 1st and 2nd gear). Yeah the steering felt tighter and sharper, and it seemed to rev a little quicker, but I don't think that it was worth trading in for.

I get where Curbsquirrel and most EP owners are coming from. I hate it when people rag on my car, let alone how much sh*t they get for having the new Si.

Everybody can have their own opinion on Si, but what I say is "To Each His Own".

Thanks guys.. I really do feel better. The day I crashed I was a little bummed but when I think about it "I didn't get hurt at all." Not a scratch or even a headache. I think my health matters a lot more than my car.

LOL not to be a d*ck but after searching for posts by other members who have also crashed and have been in accidents made me feel a whole lot better.
