On the way to work
On the way to work
Around 7:30am this morning on my way to work I lined up at a red light behind a 2003 Mustang GT. To the right of the stang was a dropped pearl white 7th gen (stock body) civic (don't know if anyone on here owns it). The mustang was the first to rev up *drool* i love how the throaty v8s sound. At first I the civic owner didn't respond, but after a couple seconds he decides to play too (cleanest sounding bov i've heard in awhile)
. Well the light hit green, the civic got the jump, with the stang launching soon after. The street was only a 4-lane, so I just tailed the stang a couple car lengths behind. It never gained a single inch on the civic. I shut down in 3rd gear, coasting at 50-60...Seemed the civic had maybe a bus length on the stang in the end
. At the next light, i see them lined up again, talking to each other. They both give a thumbs up and cruise on their way.
Nice way to start an otherwise boring day at work.

Hmm to the best of my knowledge you WON'T hear a blowoff valve when your revving. Why? cause boost isn't created until you put a load on the engine. And you can't but a load on the engine while remaining in one place (except on a dyno or doing a burnout). I can go outside and fire up the mazda and rev all day and no boost will be created. This leads me to believe one of two things 1). Your full of sh*t or 2). He was purging nitrous which makes a sound similar to a blowoff valve. Either way the sound you heard WASN'T a blowoff valve.
#1...reason you probably can't hear it on your mazda is because it's a TT (asuming you're talking about an FD)...disable your 2nd turbo and it will be a lot more audible even if you don't build boost and rev from a stop.
#2...you might still have your fire blanket attached on your hood...that deadens the sound of the bov more than you could imagine.
Yes, the BOV is a lot more audible from a roll after the turbo spools...that's a given. If you insist that it wasn't the BOV i was hearing from a dead stop, i'll put up some sound files of me revving the supra in neutral and you can judge for yourself.

1) You don't DISABLE a turbo
2) This is a fact, you will not hear the sound of a blowoff valve when no boost is being made, the purpose of a blow off vavle is to release the pressurized air preventing the air from slamming into the throttle plate and backing up into the turbocharger itself. The sound you hear is the pressurized air being released and going out the blow off valve. So how can the air be pressurized when you aren't making any boost?
3) You obviously don't know much about turbos

Actually yes i do, i have also done some further research into this and have found that my initial statement was incorrect. I was speaking from experience, not fact. Every turbochraged car ive driven/riden in/worked on, will not create boost when you rev in neutral. The vaccuum will dispearse however no boost. As i found that some BOV, the TurboXS in particular, will allow the car to generate boost when no load is on the engine.

try mazdas, mitsu, and subaru
I have no problem admitting when im wrong, but i have a real problem when people act childish about it. I have much more respect for GunnerX17 because he proved me wrong and instead of going "HAHA YOU MORON YOUR WRONG" like you did, he did the more civil thing and simply acknowledged my response. You on the other hand have done just the opposite by resorting to namecalling.
got boost is a moron
