The cheaper the car, the slower you are. (In most cases.)
The more money you put in it under the hood, the faster it'll be. (In most cases.)
Stock Preludes aren't that fast, neither is the RSX-S in a broad perspective. A 15 second car is not ever "fast" more than it is "quick" for street performance.

or you can just do a motor swap like im just finishing up doing. I just got my ECU programmed yesterday, there are still just a couple things to work out...but that didnt prevent me from hitting VTEC driving the car home. HOLY CRAP!! my car is finally quick. i should be able to walk preludes now in a race. Atleast my buddy with a 97 SH with I/E/pullies thinks my car should. seeing how i have a little more HP than he does with my CAI/Exhaust, and my car is much lighter.

Hmm... it depends on how you guys define fast. Personally I feel any car that can pull .85 G's and do 0-60MPH in less than 6 is fast for street. even an K20 swap wont make your car in those stats. Dont mean to be pessimistic........

Why do you stress it? you got a 127hp family car, and your racin' an 160hp base Prelude or you might have gotten ripped by an Sh (200hp stock) what do you expect? The only chance you got is a gear miss, no wait check that, a stall.

don't wet your self about losing to a prelude-in my old car i could barley beat a newer prelude by more than a nose (it was 1992 camaro rs with bolt on performance mods and chrome wheels)older preludes of any model for some reason i had no problem with but what confusess me is i could beat a basic prelude{newer}but one day i lost to a friends light ly modded civic {spoon wheels i/h/e+pullies}
but anyway i was so surrprised thats what made me get a civic ...i was like
that tin foil can beat my gas gussler

i beat a 2000 Prelude Base 3 times out of the 4 that we raced. The kid did NOT know how to drive at all. I have witnesses to it as well...really funny actually, but at the same time really sad. And the time that he beat me i missed 2nd. Of course now no prelude stands a chance against my K20A2...im only half serious.

Hmm... I wouldnt count out the RSX-S is being fast.... but somehow after seeing a few articles in different mags, even after swap, the Civic still isnt fast. Of course putting more $$ would be nice, but not everyones got that type of budget.
NoBottleJustThrottle, there wouldn't be a base Prelude if all of them had 200hp. The Base M/T and A/T have 160hp, and The Sh has 195, up until 2000. Look it to it man.

you might be talkin about a different year...but from 1997-1999 there were two preludes...SH, and Base...both having 195hp...the SH model was different because of its highly improved suspension addition, the ATTS (Automatic Torque Transfer System). The Base was minus that addition. In 2000, Honda redesigned the header for all preludes upping their HP to 200hp for both the SH and Base. Once again, the only difference being the ATTS system. Trust me on this one, i know my 5th gen preludes (1997-2001) pretty well.

ATTS = Active torque transfer system.........
