01 AT EX Civic Vs early 90 Stang

I had a locla encounter with an older mustang. I'm not sure if it was a 5.0, im not familiar with mustangs, but this guy had just an exaughst done to his ride. Anyway, were at a red light, and then it turns green, he takes off pretty fast, but I caught up to him easily. At the next stop light, we both floored it a green, and I beat him by 1/2 a car length. Is it just me is arent stangs faster than civics, even the older ones? This is not b/s b4 anyone starts flaming- I just wanted to know what you guys'z input is on my encounter. (p.s. I have a full magnaflow catback system, and an aem sri)

Could have been an LX 4 cylinder. Those 5.0's are slow compared to the current Mustang, but still faster than our cars.

well yes, the latest model 5.0 is still nearly a decade old. of course they are slow stock compared to now

then again who drives a stock 5.0 anymore? i know only one person...then rest of them are pushing 400whp.

you beat a 4cyl stang
it wasnt the turbo 4cyl
it wasnt a 5 litre

congrats on the easy kill.

"5.0s are slow compared to the current Mustang..."

No, not really. It all depends on the year/model/tranny. The '87-'93 5.0 LX notchbacks (coupes) were way underrated as far as performance goes. Only 225hp, but many 5 speeds ran low 14s bone stock, and even autos might touch high 14s. The current GTs with 260hp aren't much faster, if at all. The car you raced was most likely a 4cyl with less hp than a Civic, so you had better win that race!!!! Or it was a 5.0 with only 4 cyls running, so that would make it a 2.5????
