Cool Autocross Last weekend

Well last sunday, the Las Vegas Regon SCCA put on another autocross out at Sunset Station. Due to the Excessive heat we race at night durring the summer. Nothing like racing under the lights.

As ushuall, we try to get as many people to our events as possible, so after posting on as many forums dealing with las vegas and racing (Mostly the Drag forums), we had an impressive turnout. 92 cars with 16 in my class (STS) alone! with lots of Integras, civics, celicas, a couple of Matrixs some old Carollas (AE86) I'd like to say that compititon was stiff, but alas, only the regulars put up any. It is, however, Very fun to watch all the "Ricers" and their groupies try to talk the talk. Only, in the end, to get Very beaten by a lowly 86 Civic with a whoping 98 HP. (I got beaten by it to ) I have an excuse though, the 2 drivers of said civic both race at the nationals, One is a multi time CSP champ (Ran an CRX) and the other has many top 10 finishes at nationals. The great part was that I was only .69 seconds out of 2nd and 1.353 seconds out of first!! not bad concidering the compititon. The rest of my class, aside from a few Locals who were very close to beating me, were very fun to watch. there were some who thought it was smart/faster to Try and gun it out of every corner, and while they made plenty of grey-white smoke and chard some tires, they were sadly some of the slowest cars on the course. Others felt is was best to pull the hand brake to try to get around the one Turn around, and like their tire smokin friends, ended up losing time for it. My personal Favorite was a little red civic hatch who thought it faster to try and drift around all the corners (By holding the E-brake of course). Not only did this make the car unstable in the corners, but it also made him one of the slowest in the class. I don't quite understand some of their attitudes, like when you try to explain that the gas pedal is not an on-off switch, or that you should brake in a straight line then turn in. they act as if what you say is utter B.S. While they go on to tourchure they're poor car, you go on to beat them by 4 seconds. Oh well, Us "old men" (I'm 24) out at the autocross track are more then happy to help any one who asks, but if you dont listen then its only you that will be going slow.

If you've never been to an autocross your missing out! Its great fun and what you learn there with car control may save your life out on the street.

Keep racing and Keep the shiny side up!!!

#409 STS

oh ya, I cam in 3rd in my class and 11th overall (PAX) out of 92 cars.

Once again proving... HP doesn't mean **** if your car sticks like glue.
I get my *** kicked every time by an 83 GTi... all 90 HP of it.

I never understood the point of just trying to go fast in a straight line... anyone can do that... sheesh.

I just realized, I think Ron's house is in Fort Wayne.

Boilermaker1, if you see him at one of your events, tell him Spencer says HI.
