Cool Traded my 2002 Accord for a 2003 Civic...

Hey everyone, this would be my first post here, although I have been browsing these boards since the 2k1civic.com days. Here is the Cliff's Notes version of my story. I bought a 2001 Civic EX coupe AT soon after the 7th gens came out. I loved the car, and kept it for about a year. Then I traded that in for a 2002 Accord LX V6 coupe. Talk about a difference, power-wise. But I missed the handling feel of the Civic. The Accord had more room and was better in a straight line, but it didn't have the "personality" of the Civic. Well, as it turns out, for $ and mileage reasons, as in my commute to work became 35 miles, each way, I had to trade in my Accord for...... you guessed it, another Civic. Same model, EX coupe AT in NBP. I guess you could say I came full circle. I was so impressed with the changes Honda made on the '03 'vics, interior, and handling wise. The interior is so far superior to what my '01 was, it seems like a different car. I would say even that the '03 interior is superior in design and quality to my '02 Accord. And the steering is incredible, especially for an "economy" car. Plus I love the '99-'00 Si wheels that now come standard. Just wanted to spout off how happy I am to have a Civic again, and rub it in the face of all those '01 and '02 owners.

JK on that last part.

But seriously, it's good to be back in a Civic.

Grrrrrrr. Rub it in my face will ya!!! That's cool. Glad to see that you at least stuck with quality cars and didn't go out and buy a domestic. How much different is the 03 interior?

I sure hope you test drove an 03 Accord Coupe, whether it be 4 cyl or 6cyl...The difference in cars from 02 to 03 is tremendous, and the handling is far better in the Accord coupe than the Civic IMO. Congrats on the "Vic" though.

I hear you about the mileage with commuting to work. That's what these cars are built for. I personally traded in a 98 integra GSR (awesome car) because I felt so guilty about driving it into the ground. I have to admit I mostly miss the brakes (it would stop on a dime) and 8000rpm redline. Now I have an 03' 5-speed coupe. This new civic is great and I have no regrets!!

Indeed I did, both 4 and 6 cyl coupes. I was impressed with the new 5 spd autos, and of course the new engines, I already love the K24 as my wife has a 2003 CR-V EX (We're a Honda couple ) BUT, I actually was not that taken with the styling, inside, or out. I don't like the 7th gen's dash design, and visibility is HORRIBLE in the new Accords, especially the coupes. Ask anyone who owns one, and I guarantee they'll agree. I felt like I was sitting in a box, and couldn't see out. And I'm 5'10"! Plus, after driving a '03 V6 LX, just like my '02 model, I didn't think the handling was any sharper. Maybe the 4 cyl handles better since they have less weight over the front end. And steering feel in the '03s, at least on my EX, is better than the Accords, IMO. ANYWAY, I'm quite happy with the Civic. Thanks!!!

True, very true. I have owned 2 Fords, a Mustang and a Thunderbird, and lets just say that unless someone gave me an '03 Cobra or Lightning, I won't be driving a blue oval anytime soon. Or a bowtie, or a ram, you get the idea. Well, at least comparing EX to EX, the seats are different, shape wise. The fabric material and design is different. There are adjustable headrests in the back seat for the outboard passengers, the gauge cluster is totally new, with LED gauges, the center console is totally new with a flip up armrest with storage, like an Accord but smaller. And the steering wheel is totally new. Whew, did I miss anything? It's like a night and day difference compared to my '01, from what I remember. But all Civics are good, '01, '02, '03, or otherwise!

Re: Traded my 2002 Accord for a 2003 Civic...

I recently purchased a '03 Civic LX Coupe. I like the car's look and handling is good. I have some concerns that I'd like to have feedback on. There were some maintenance work that were needed at purchase, but I purchased anyway because I needed a car and the work wasn't really major. I got all done except new tires. Any suggestions on which tire is best for this car for great dry & wet, cornering grip, handling, breaking, traction, treadwear/life, comfort? Tire size is 185/70R14. I'm thinking I'll get H speed instead of S for better grip. Which brings me to my other concern that I've recently experienced the car rolling back on the slightest incline. It may be normal for this car, but I'm not use to this and I don't like that feeling of rolling backwards downward at all. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm hoping it's just that it needs better tires. Do you think better tires would help? Peace.
