Last week I mentioned that my ACT 8.4 lbl flywheel and my ACT clutch were installed, but I didnt have time to give you all a report, well here it is.
The first thing I noticed was that the clutch petal travell was cut in half and that it feels firmer. Once I got used to it (kept stalling out) and made my way out onto the road the I found that the car reved much quicker and that 1st and 2md gear felt allot shorter. Infact due to how much easier the car picks up revs you can actualy (but faintly) feel the VTEC engage. On another note, the rumor about the idle being ruff isnt true at all, the car actualy idles smoother, and starts much quicker. ANother great thing is that the throtle response is much better, and the lag time after shifts is now un-noticable.
Unfortunetly their are a few downfalls to having such a lite flywheel. Such as, the car looses revs very quickly inbetween shifts, your A/C kills more power than before, and due to the lack of rotating mass I can no longer "chirp" 2nd and 3rd gear. Although I can do crazy 1st gear burnouts now.
For thoose of you who are wondering I bought both Items from www.optauto.com.
The flywheel is part number ACT-600115 and sells for $251.00.
the clutch set is part number ACT-HC5-HD and sells for $344.00.
Oh, and just incase anyone was wondering the stock flywheel weighs 13.5 lbl's.
I cant wait to see how they work w/ my turbodiscounters.com extreme turbo kit that Im buying tomarrow.

Sounds great. I didn't think that it sound affect chirping 2nd and 3rd, but I can see how it does so now after you mentioned it. Loosing rev's after shifting is probably not a downfall though. That's 'cause if you shift quickly your rpm's should fall lower than with a heavier flywheel and your synchro's will have an easier time of rev matching. That is if the rpm's don't fall too quickly to idle before you shift.
Anyway, there's also a heavier flywheel that ACT offers that's lighter than stock, but heavier than the one you got. It's around 11 lbs. That might be a good compromise...

UPDATE: I could no longer "chirp" 2nd b/c the damn sensor that hooks into my CAI wasnt re-installed (damn speed shop). I can now peel out into second, and peel out if I drop it from 3rd to second at 40 mph.
