Clearing out your headlights...
I have searched, and I'm not asking how to do it, because there is a DIY. But, all I'm asking is from the people that have done this, how did it go? Any tips for a young person like myself? What wattage bulb needs to be replaced if you want an amber in there?
Also, sort of straying here, but is 2004 going to be that last year for our beloved 7th generation Civic? Because we are going to be trading in our 4 door LX for a 2 door Si this time next year, so I'm just wondering, will they still be making 2004's this time next year, and not just trying to sell off what they have. What I'm concerned about it they won't me making any special, you know, with the options you want right from the factory...

It was easy, just try not to get the stock sealent on the chrome part, and have a second person with you, just follow directions close..
I was afraid to tear apart my new baby, but it went real smooth!

it's the caulking stuff you're going to need to cut through to pry apart the assembly, and then the stuff you're going to need to buy to seal them back up. you'll see it when you take it apart. it's like the clear stuff in between the tiles in your bathroom......in some bathrooms, at least
Eeek, that sounds messy, and risky... I don't know if I should be cutting anything, eeek...
And what is it that you have to buy and re-apply? Other than that, it's pretty easy right like you guys were saying, like, anyone that is competent can do it right? I'm only 18, so I haven't done very much like this...

By putting in an amber bulb, does that help, or is it still hard to see, especially in the day.

amber bulbs help, but i think its hard to see during the daytime. if you want to have an orange turn signal, you can always leave in a small piece of the orange reflector. some members in this site have done it and it looks pretty clean. try searching for their rides.

if you have enough money, you can buy TYC chrome or silver projectors. i bought my black TYC's off ebay for 195 shipped, you can probably find it for a lower price
oh, and you dont have to worry about any bulbs, they come with the head lights. plus it has the orange reflector so you wont have to worry about getting hit

Actually, I was just looking at a 2000 in my school parking lot, and they just have the orange bulb, with a little reflector on the side. So if Honda thinks it's safe enough, I guess I can do it. I'll just leave the side reflector in like some on this forum have done.
As for the projectors, I don't really like them, plus they're a lot of money.

I'd PM Mex...he cleared his headlights and painted a little of the reflector part amber. Here is a picture of it...
As for clearing the headlights, it's not that hard. Just make sure you have a hair dryer or something to heat up the glue that's holding the light together. If you heat it up enough you don't have to cut anything, you can just pry apart the two halves of the head light.

Cool thanks. That looks nice. But what if you didn't pain anything? Can you still leave a little reflector in there? I have never had one opened, that's why all of the questions are popping out
Oooh! ok, I thought they were two seperate pieces... So when you clear out you lights, it's just one big piece that comes out, ok I get it now. If I put in an amber bulb, it would still be visible, not much different then the 99-00 Civic's, because they only have a little amber piece, not really noticeable. I mean in the day you would still see the amber light flashing enough right?
Also, when I read the DIY it said to be careful not to break them when taking them apart. How would you break them? Like by doing what?
Also how hard did you find it to be to take the bumper off and stuff, because I don't have a jackstand or anything.

No I didn't paint anything...I just have an amber bulb in there. It just looks amber like that cuz the color of the bulb is being reflected by the chrome inside the housing.
It would be kinda hard to break anything...I remember me and my friend were tugging really hard to try and get the two halves apart and nothing broke. And we didn't have jackstands either, we just used the jacks from our cars and lifted the front.

Oh ok, so they take a good beating when being pulled apart. Doing the hairdryer thing would help out more though wouldn't it?
Also, are they jacks that come with the car strong/sturdy enough to trust being under the car on?
This doesn't seem as bad as I thought, I think I'll do it next year when we get the Si, no sense doing it now since the car has to go back to the dealer when we trade it in.

this thread has actually answered a lot of other questions i had. for the bulbs though, the # is 7443 right? and how hard is it to find these amber bulbs? also i dont wanna get hassled by the popo, since ive heard they frown upon mods such as this.
By the way, I was just wondering what brand of orange bulbs should I buy? You may be thinking why am I asking this, well the reason is that when my OE Honda tail light bulbs burned out, the dealership replaced them, but they kept on burning out. Put new one's in like 5 times, until they put in actual Honda one's, and that solved it. So that's why I'm asking what brand to buy, also, what type?
Yeah I did mine and it came out great but I left the headlight all clear never ever had a problem with a clear headlight or clear corners. Was reading in the JCW Sport Compact and this is what they said "Headlights with clear lenses are street legal (amber bulbs must be used on the sides). But yeah I have been running hyper white for my whole headlight and corners on my cars for over 4 yrs now and never had any problems here.
Another couple of questions from me. Once you have heated up the caulking, and pulled the lights apart, do you remove all of the caulking, and put new stuff on?, or do you leave it? If you do replace it, what is the best stuff to use? And how do you make sure you get a good seal, and reduce the chance of getting a leaking light once it's all sealed up again?
