Okay so I was driving along in my '89 Nissan Maxima. It has been raining off and on for the past 4 days or so and the gravel roads by my house are pretty bad. This one raod, Alta Ave., gets a lot of travic and is really bad... picture 5-10 foot long stretches like this:
________/\/\/\/\/\/\/\________
... where it's 4 inches from the highest point to the lowest. Anyway, I was following my girlfriend and trying to keep up with her; she was going like 50 mph (easy for her '03 Audi A4 with AWD and ESP). So I suddenly tried to swerve when I saw some bad road coming up and as I'm swerving around I hit some other ruts and slid to my right, hit some more potholes, and the I lost control and went into the ditch; I must have been going pretty fast because I plowed through an electric post and kept driving, eventually out of the ditch, and then to a stop... the pole partly came down on the roof of my car. I don't remember much, it all happened fast. There was one wire the was ripped apart that sent sparks out almost like an explosion (use your imagination). I wasn't even wearing my seat belt, but I don't seem to be that hurt; although my neck's a little sore.
My first reaction was sort of a hysteria, I just laughed. There was a big rush of adrenaline. Then my girlfriend, who had seen it all, comes back semi-horrified. Thats where it sort of hit me and I steped out of my car. I looked in awe at my car and the pole laying on the ground. The front bumper was shaped like a "V" and there was coolant leaking everywhere.
Okay so my question is what's going to happen with my insurance? I think I have full coverage. I was planning on buying a new car (civic EX coupe!). I'm pretty sure the maxima is totalled. For anyone interested it has 140,000 miles with the blue book around $2000-$2500. The officer said that posts are some what expensive.
thanks to anyone who can help

just get a stick.. or else u will be regretting it for a long time
as for ur insurance.. its probablly not gonna give u enuff for the post and a new car... but hey u never know

okay well this was my assumption... since no other car was involved it will be ruled as no-fault. i thought maybe the power line costs would go under private property which i think is seperate from the money i'll get for my car... (?) um... i also got other stuff on my driving record, if my premiums get too high i won't be able to afford a new car (in which case i'm bummed).

I suppose the first question is why you have full coverage on a car that old?? The car is almost worthless to insurance. They'll total the car, and probably give you $500-$1000 (maybe) for it. In addition to that you'll probably have to pay to fix the pole, grass and whatever else got torn up. You'll might catch a break because of the bad weather/road, but I wouldn't expect too much.
Oh, that book value is a dream... My bro's 93 Max is worth about $1700, so there's no way yours is worth more.
I would start looking for a new ride, and plan on buying it outright, cuz I don't think you'll get much help from your insurance... and it'll go up.

okay so i was confused about the full coverage. i talked to my insurance people and they're not covering my car but they'll take care of any property damage. so then i just lost out on 1000... i feel pretty dumb right now... so my premiums are going up for sure when i get a new car?

sorry dude, that was just hella funny to me... but dont worry, i just f***ed up my civic this weekend too!! and mine was the dopest 7thgen ever!!
but yeah, i didnt hit anyother car either but mine got totaly messed up, and what i think the insurance is gonna do is, they are gonna pay for the damages and whatever and then drop me from their policy becuz i have 2 suspensions on my license and like 12 or 13 tickets that arnt even parking!! so, if ur record is anywhere near that bad, they might just drop u and u might have to find another insurance company. If you were an insurance company, would you give the same rate to someone who has never been in an accident compared to someone who got in a major accident?

well in my opinion when you're faced with that kind of situation the best thing you can do is take a step back and laugh hehe. sorry bout your civic. 1 ticket for a speeding misdimeanor (110 in a 55) and 1 suspension from something else. the speeding ticket was when i was still a minor, will a new insurance agency see that on my record?
i am going to have to find something else to drive, and right now my budget will be tight. what do you guys get if you only had $2000-$3000? any opinions are welcome.
