Rims question

Okay, I want to get 17" rims but my friend told me that he doesn't think that it is a good idea because if I hit a pot hole, it could dent the car. He has a accord with 18" rims and he told that this happened to him. He also thinks accord 18" is equalivent to 17" on civics. He told me my best bet is to go with 16" and I won't have to "drive scared". What do you guys think?

Smile Re: Rims question

hey there
it s all on what series tire you ride on...for instance
i had 16" with 45 series no dents smooth ride
then changed to a 17" with 40 (lower profile) got 1 bent rim and unbearable
ride(for the roads in my town).
my advice go with a 17" with a 45 series tire
any questions just email me
hope i helped

A couple moderators here can tell you alot about that! Anyway, if the roads are really rough then yes I would stick with a 16" wheel, as long as you are watching the road 17" or 18" should not be a problem. I have 215/35-18 tires and I am careful where I drive but there is just no avoiding the pot holes. I noticed I have a small bubble on one of my tires most likely from a pot hole.:dragster:

I have 215/45R17 tires, which BTW are nearly identical to the stock diameter on my EX. I've had no problems with denting the rims, and I've drivin through several potholes. The ride is a little harder, but its not uncomfortable. You should be fine with 17" rim and 45 sidewall, and that seems to be one of the more popular sizes I've seen on this site.

I have 17's with a 40 series tire. I think it rides pretty smooth, it really jars your head if you are going kinda fast and hit a pot hole. But i drive pretty careful. I just bent one of my rims cuz i hit a rock. I think it would have bent any size rim though. If you're worried about the ride quality i'd go with a 45 series tire.

if you do get 17inch rims and 45 series tires, just remember you can't lower your more than 1.5 inchs in the rear, it will rub, unless you roll your fenders.

ya bro I am riding on 205/40/17 and nothing is wrong with that you just have to be careful. If your going to tail people or fly down unkown roads then go with 16's but even a bigger tire on 17's is safe.
