I totalled my car, need help

So last week this dumshit crosses into my lane for a nice head on, and my car was hauled to the nearest Autoshop. Later it was officially declared totalled by the insurance adjuster, and the driver of the other car was hit up with a wreckless driving citation. My car has a few mods on it: full system, rims & tires, suspension, tint, exhaust, intake, spoiler etc..And I was told that those are worth nothing! My car is a 2001 Civic EX Coupe-and yes I was just going to join 7thgencivic and post some pics. But now, they tell me I get the ****in market value on my car and no compensation for modifications, even when the idiot that hit me was at fault. I bought the car at 16,900 plus another 5,000 in modifications, but I'm told I'll get 12,000 for everything. My cars got under 11,000 miles on it and is in great condition-plus the mods, labor, time, etc I think I should get more. Do I have to accept this or is this *******s insurance company just trying to screw me out of proper compensation?

Correcting you since your wrong, I got quite a bit back on my car in "modded" condition over what i would have gotten stock. The dealer did everything they could do to get me to go home in the Z.

Call your insurance company and be VERY CLEAR that you WILL drop them as your carrier and all your family and friends WILL also drop them if you are not fully comped for all of you mods and full value of your car. That should change the adjustment fairly quick Good luck

Damn dude, that really sucks. I don't know if it's true for you, where you live, but here in Alberta, if you mod your car, and want to get covered for them in case of accident, you MUST get it assesed by the insurance company. Because when they sign you on for coverage, they sign you on as owning that particular car in stock form. With any amount of significant mods, the value goes up or down, depending on whether you affect the safety of the automobile. Before you get all nasty on their @sses, you may want to check your coverage. It should be on the forms that they sent you with the initial policy and the pink slip.

Good luck getting comped man.

I have seen this so many times...I'm an adjuster....And no they do not have to cover any of those items UNLESS you told them you had modified your car prior to your accident. Think about it, your paying premium on a stock 2001 Civic, when really you have a modified 2001 civic. To them, they are insuring a stock 2001 civic, so why would they pay out any more than what a 2001 Stock civic is worth ......Selling a car that is modded is different than settling a total loss on a modified vehicle ....good luck

people do this all the time, and all it does it make the adjuster less likely to work with you on the value. If you choose to make threats towards them, good luck raising the value.

Wouldn't it make sense... Theoritically...
Yes, your insurance company would not cover it.... But, since that guy hit sex, that inturn that persons insurance company would be picking up the tab for the accident caused by their "insured", assuming he has insurance. It should be his insurance company fitting the bill to put the car back into the condition it was in prior to the accident caused by their client?

I think Godwin is right. Since it won't be your fault, its the other company paying. And...if you get screwed on that, be injured. If you're hurt at all, i mean anything, go to the doctor within 2 weeks. This way you can sue and make up your money that way. "Pain and suffering"

Good luck bro.

Godwin is right buthis comapny has to pay out first and then go after the third parties insurer to subrogate their loss...so in theory, since they have to pay out anyway, they want to keep the settlement as low as possible
