My new motto: If it breaks, fugg it!

So yeah, things break. If you do what you normally do and something on your car breaks then you shouldn't replace it with the same damned thing. It'll just break again sooner or later.

The first thing that broke on me was the stupid plastic cover for the accessory socket. The hinge broke and the plastic is so tiny that it's very hard to repair. I have a 2001 thingie for sale with the plastic door thingie that covers the accessory socket broken off. If anyone wants it then shoot me a PM. Anyway... To replace that I bought an ashtray and cigarette lighter accessory. It doesn't have that plastic cover. Plus I get a trash receptacle. I don't smoke, but at least I can offer someone a light from my car.

I didn't take a night shot, but the trim around the cigarette lighter lights up green and there's a little light inside of the ashtray that turns on when you turn your lights on. Kinda k3wl.

The second thing that broke were the little clips that hold the center console in towards the front down low near the driver's right foot and the passenger's left foot. One of them simply snapped. It still works, but it's weak. I'm not paying $2 + shipping for that part from Honda. That part wasn't designed to be taken off and put back in multiple times.

I've taken the center console out about 20 times now since I keep on messing around with my shifter, so I want something more sturdy. I bought these little clips from Lowe's that are meant for automotive use. They have a little center screw that you screw in to tighten the clip down. So much more sturdier than stock. Takes longer to take out, but I can be sure that it won't break now.

Anyway... I will extend this philosophy to everything I encounter now. If something breaks I won't buy the same exact part. I'll upgrade to something better. Next on the list will be the plastic trim down in front under the car. It's cracked in several places. I will replace it with a sheet of aluminum that will protect the undercarriage better from rocks and what not.

Yep that bites but you seem to have figured out part substitution. By the way you had a chance to send those pads yet?

Yep. Not the one in these pictures, but the original one for the 2001 Civics. OEM costs about $30 shipped without the accessory socket thingie. How's $20 shipped sound?

My accessory outlet cover won't break cause I never close or open it. It stays open with the two holer plug for the radar and cb radio plugged into it.

The fasteners on the console extension cover broke the first and only time I ever removed them. I used a couple of the fastners like hold the bumper on underneath, but they don't match since I have the beige interior.

Nice job grey. How do you like your CD player? I am looking at getting a new one. I noticed that you can angle the face on that model to 3 different angles. With our angle of the dash its hard to read the screen on my current player. Can you read the face on yours pretty good?

I love my CD player. For $239 shipped it's the best bang for the buck. Mp3 player with all sorts of coolness (scrolling tags that scroll pixel by pixel for really smooth scrolling), nice remote, detacheable face, motorized face (3 angles), 20RMS amp, 7 band parametric equalizer (only one with 7 bands that I know of), built-in crossover for sub. With my Pioneer Premier 3-ways it rocks 'cause I can set the 7 band equalizer to even out the speakers. Best signal/noise ratio that I've come across for this price. Better than the Pioneer Premier DEH-740MP. Better radio reception too. Better everything but the cross-overs. Since I have 3-ways though I just don't need them. My speakers cover from 20Hz to 36,000Hz (something like that, plus a tiny bit different from front to rear). I can read mine fairly well though. No complaints. At night it's very nice. It's got an auto-dim feature so that it's not too bright at night. Well, whenever you turn on the lights. I don't use the angles though 'cause they tilt the face up. It would be better if it tilted down a little, but I can see everything just fine without it being tilted down.

Hmm... Don't know? I just got them from Lowe's. They're made by a company called HILLMAN (I think?). It just said they were for 1/4" hole and that they were the scre-in type. That's it. I got them for something like $0.79.

Ooh. I need some of those clips too. Both of mine broke the first time I took apart my console. Looks like we'll be taking a little trip to Lowe's next time I stop by...unless you have a couple to spare.

Now I need a three holer plug thigie so I can use my new cell phone car charger. But I'm starting to get afraid I'll break that stupid little plastic cover hinge.

No no, I wouldn't let them smoke IN my car. I would simply offer them a light if they needed one when we're outside.

As for the clips... NO! I don't have any to spare. Lowe's should have plenty though.

a ton of the clips in my car got weak after multiple times of opening them. the cig lighter trim peice is an example. all the metal clip peices either broke or fell off and now mine doesnt "clip" back into flush stock position anymroe. gonna order a new one soon. those lil plastic clips that hold the center console down also are broken, both of them! im gonna lookin into the screw thingy like you did. my center radio peice also doesnt sit fully flush. probably becuase of numerus times ive pryed it out.. lol

so i gotta order like 150$ worth of spare peices so i can repaint and finish my interior. right now its craptastic!
