If I had to do it all over again
When I bought my civic in sept i didn't know anything about cars! If I had to do it all over again I definitely would have gotten a mustang since they are close in price with each other.
a mustand =\ hahaha much better cars out there in our price range. If I knew the civic si would be so cheap now I would of waited to buy it but I didn't I just wanted a new car to get rid of my ford pos =]

Nope, I wouldn't have it any other way. I bought my car because Iwanted it, not because it was what I could afford or what was cool to get. I plan on doing my K20 swap with turbo in the years to come. This is my project car. I got this car because I wanted to work on it and tinker with the engine.
Sounds to me like some people watched too much F&F and thought that cars came stock like the ones in the movie.

I sure wish my car was newer

I'll admit... I thought Civics had more performance that this when I got mine. I didn't think they were performance cars, but I thought they'd respond better to what we can do easily. But either way, I'd rather have my car than a new Mustang styling wise.
As a previous mustang owner I will admit they are considerbly faster than a civic, but own one for a year and then compare fuel cost. In case you havent noticed this whole Iraq thing thats going on, gas prices will kill you in a mustang, to some fuel cost don't matter. Then you mod the hell out of it and have to run c-16 fuel when your getting 8mpg, gas cost will start to matter. And no matter how much you baby the mustang, it will never out last a Honda.

Really? Whens the last time you say a 30 year old Honda in cherry proime condition? I cant tell you the last time I saw a mustang like that, because it happens so often.

that doesnt make sense. you wanted to buy a car that fit your budget now, and would be a good platform for a swap and future upgrades, then you go ahead and buy new a 7th gen civic?
I can see buying it because u wanted a new car and then modding it as an after thought, but doing it the other way is either due to lack of research or a flase idea that it would be just as easy to do as previous generations... whcih again leads to a lack of research.
If i was buying a car to get me from point A to point B untill I could mod it to be fast, id pick A) something USED and B) something thats a good platform to start on.

I like the styling of the 7thgen over the earlier generations. I was going to get an RSX-S to start with but I think its ugly. I would rather swap the engine into a car that I like and a car that I want to drive.
Bottom line, I'm not going to buy a earlier gen car because someone else likes it. I bought the car because I liked it.

A) I wasnt refering to you
B) who said anything about likeing it? obviously you made consessions when buying that over something that would be cheaper and eaiser to make much faster. the end.
C) I said *something* used. i never said it had to be a previous generation civic.

My first car was a used 90 Civic. I killed it after a year. My second car was a used 97 Trans Am. I held onto it for 2 years. Sure it had great power and was a beast to drive. But I couldn't work on it like I can a civic. I was tired of buying used cars. I wanted something new to work with. I wanted a car that didn't already come with problems that I had to fix. I wanted a fresh start with this car.
I picked the 02 instead of getting the 01 so that most of the bugs would have been worked out of it. And so far I am damn proud of my choice. I have yet to have any problems with my car. I love everything about the car and have no complaints.

When I bought my civic, the idea of modding it never crossed my mind. Then, I stumbled across this site and started the whole ricer fest like I did when I was 18-19.
A few months ago, I walked out to my car and said
, what in the hay am I doing? I honestly feel like an idiot flying around and making noise in my econo civic. I never intended it to be or look like that...I mean, I like it, but it makes me feel like a teenager or something...
Anyhow, I am returning my car to stock. I am going to leave it that way and keep it or buy a 6thgen si or hopefully a gsr. That puppy will be left stock...
I don't though, the mpg is so damn good and it's just so cheap to operate...beautiful, conservative, practical, little car.

i actually wanted to buy a 94-99 integra. but i didnt have a job and needed a car, so my dad said a new car might be more practical cause chances are it wont need to be repaired as often. i had no real plans to mod it, thats why i leased. i do agree with joe tho, if you knew you were gonna mod a car, why pick a new car? didnt you realze there wouldnt be any parts for it for at least a few years?? not picking anyone out, just being general/rhetorical.
after finding this site i did mod the car a bit, but its been mostly to make it handle better. the exhaust is the only thing thats "performance," but i like the wait it sounds too...i needed a growl. hehe ive pretty much stopped modding tho. after i put the springs on in the spring, im not doing anything else. its kind of a waste of money...and i cant go show cause i have to return the car.
i do know this for a fact, the next car isnt gonna be a civic...and most likely not a honda. unless they bring the prelude back, but even then i doubt it.

I dont regret buying mine one bit. Sure its not fast, but I knew that the day I bought it. For me it was all about reliability and economy. Throw in some nice styling and basic bolt-ons and its a fun car to drive. I'm going to keep mine mostly stock except for the suspension and drive **** outa it.

If you look into Honda's history, the civic or any other honda hasn't been known for it's reliabilty until about the last 4-6 years. The Honda's before were crappy as hell. This is a reason why you haven't seen a 30 or even a 15 year old cherry primed civic.
Since we live in the U.S.A., it is no wonder why the Ford Mustang is so popular with everyone. The majority of immaculate 30 year old mustang's that I have seen have been fully restored, I mean a co-worker of mine has a 66 Mustang and it's in very good condition, the interior has been re-uphlostered (sp??) and it was painted several times, but very clean nonetheless.
When it comes down to it, the civic shouldn't even be compared with the Mustang, the mustang is one of Ford's sports car, the Civic is one of Honda's many economy cars. You guys should be comparing the Ford Festiva with the Civic.
I know the cost of the mustang is very close to the cost of the civic but, even so, it's class is totally different.
Don't know about the mustang, my best friend traded his for a Mercury Cougar, okay. It was slow, he couldn't lay a wheel with it. Although I hear they are discontinuing it in 2005 to switch to the old body style. Thank God if that's the case!
If I did it all over again, I'd have waited for the new Hyundai Tiburon. Yeah, flame me I don't care. Since it wasn't out at the time, I'd have gotten an EX, but it's my first car, I was afraid of those big expenses so I got something a little easier on the wallet.

I don't know what you are smoking but honda has been known for it's reliability for a very long time. At least the past 10 years but really more like 15 years or so.
Japanese cars took over in the mid 80's and it's pretty much the same today when talking about reliability.
Of course the stang has old cherries roaming the streets. People restore the damn things. The car has a cult like following and heritage in the name.
You just might see a old civic roaming the streets in 30 yrs if it's feasible at the time. We haven't had time to become old-farts yet. So, how can we restore a 10-15 year old car.
All the older people look back and see the cars they drove and loved. We (a lot of gen Y ers w/some gen X ers) will look back and see the civic. It has already left it's mark on the aforementioned generations. No matter what one thinks of the car, we will all remember it when we are in our 40's.
I have often thought that one day I would restore an integra like the one I had for a first car when I am in my 50s. Just wait, you'll be saying there goes a '98 __________! Same sheit we have all heard our parents say...think about it.

Have you seen a 1973 Civic? It's ugly as crap! Who the hell wants to drive that? I've seen 20 year old Civics and they're ugly too. It's not cause it was unreliable, it's cause it makes you want to stab your eyes with an unsharpened pencil.
Amen. aznsmtboy U are right and joe is wrong. The Mustang is an American icon simply cuz it is all American cuz its a Ford and that’s what the baby boomers were driving and all that bull$h1t. The civic is an economy car it always was and always will be and id like to see how many miles the spotless mustangs have been through compared to the civics. Since I’m not from that generation and I’m not even American i don't give a crap about any mustang. Also joe why wont u save us the misery and just buy a mustang and join their forum.

When gas prices skyrocket to an all time high, i'm going to be laughing at all those Stang owners.
On top of that, Hondas are reliable and have a higher resale value.
My friend owns a 2000 Mustng GT V8 and now he wants to sell it for a civic. The problem is, nobody wants the car.

I would not buy a Mustang, IMO the overall quality is crap, although they are faster than Civics obviously, that doesn't matter as much to me. Civics with minor tweaking can handle just a well as Mustangs, but just don't have the straight line speed.
