Add me to the list....
Of people to fall victim to all the stupid, awful drivers out there.
Thanks to some jackass in a beat up minivan, I've gotta get the front bumper replaced because he "didn't see me". Oh sure... my freshly washed, shiny silver car. SURE YOU DIDN'T SEE IT. What you meant to say is... "I wasn't paying attention and didn't realize you were there until I heard your horn and you were in my front tire."
So needless to say, a good bit of paint on the left side of the bumper is gone along with a bunch of those spidery scratches you get when the bumper compresses, despite all the hard work the antilock brakes did. It's also bent out of shape (its popped out about 3/4" under the headlight). He said he'd pay it out of pocket, but lets see if he really does. I did call the cops just to be sure.
The situation: I was driving home from class... it's a divided road (grass median) and a 40 MPH limit, which I was doing. There is a cross road with a stop sign and its not uncommon for people to go 1/2 way across to the median and stop again. Well this guy DIDN'T stop. He just kept right on going.
I don't have my digicam down at school, but I've now got to take my car home to the body shop (I don't trust the shops down here, I'm going to the same place that took the ding out of the panel and the dealer had knock the dent out of the roof) and get it taken care of.
OHHHHHHHHHH. I'm Pissed
Sorry for rambling, I just had to get it out.

Damn dude, that sucks. I'de get his insurance company to pay for the damages. That is unless he's willing to pay more for the damages than his insurance would give you. Anyway, get as much money as possible. His fault.

Did you see if he was yacking on a cell phone. Because you reported to the cops, if he was on a cell, the cops may give you the benefit of the doubt and charge him with reckless driving or the like. I know that here in Alberta, if someone hits you, and they are on a phone, you are immediately relieved of responsibility and the other person gets charged. I don't know how it is in Indiana, but it's worth a shot, especially if the cops were going to name it a "no-one at fault" accident.
Or you could shove your in his face and fart. Either way, your choice.

There's no reason to even bother with the Cell phone ****... he pulled out from a stop sign across a road with no stop sign (thus I have right of way). Therefore, he is 100% at fault for the accident anyway.
Anyone know how much it costs for all the parts and paint to get a new factory bumper? Approximately?

Just an update... the guy is going to pay out of pocket. Thank goodness, I didn't want to have to deal with insurance, I have enough **** to deal with with school work. It's going in next monday, damage estimated at about $700. I can't wait until it's fixed and the scratches are out.
Oh BTW: I asked about shaving the front license plate mount.... the body shop says they can't "legally" do it because it would effect the crash integrity of the bumper. You'd have to cut it out and layer either fiberglass, filler, or try to bond plastic into the hole, having the multi material piece there makes the bumper non-conforming to the 5 MPH bumper requirements... If anything hit it, the joint would probably just crack rather than compress and spring back. So you'd have to yank some strings to pull it off I guess.
It's gonna take 3 days to do, then time to move on... RIM TIME!
