Am i wasting my time?
So ive done a lot of suspension work to my car (02 ex) and it doesnt handle too bad, put on an AEM cai, and its a good looking daily driver. Of course everyone wants to go faster, but from what it sounds like the car is worthless. Should i just leave it alone and buy a second car and dump all the money into it? I have a line on an 88 mustang 5.0 for cheap, but money spent buying that could go towards the civic. what do you guys think?
Mustang all the way for performance!!!!!! I had an 89 lx 5.0 with 375 at the rear tires. I sold it to get my vic. Biggest mistake I have ever made in my life, with the exception of dating my ex. lol I would definately go with the vic for a dialy driver and for looks though.

personally, i would call it quits with the civic. Civics (ESPECIALLY ours) were never meant to be and never will be (unless you spend lots of $$$) fast.
It was designed to be a daily driver and nothing more. Be happy about the mad gas mileage

I sure wish my car was newer

If you have extra money, and you want a fast car, buy the mustang. Your Civic will never be fast on a moderate budget. You would have to put it as much or more than you paid for the car to make it even reasonably fast. Which still won't be as fast as the mustang with a grand or two. The car isn't worthless all in all, but performance-wise, its not a good choice. I'm personally going to make mine into a show car, and I'm young, so I can't really afford, and I'm not really interested in a performance car right now. It wouldn't be practical.

You want to be able to go faster? Slap on a turbo! Best bang for the buck. The Mustang will never corner like your civic. I mean, we've basically got the same suspension modifications as the RSX. Plus we weigh less. I like rally style driving myself, although without the dirt. Snow is okay though. I would continue with the suspension modifications. I would post pics of your ride. I would learn about turbo's. Then I would slap one on and try to make your civic into a mustang eater. I do mention the word "try" since it takes more than a few slap on mods to do, but it can be done. Comparing a 12 sec civic and a 12 sec mustang, I would have more respect for the civic. I know what it takes to make it go that fast and the engineering and know how that is needed to get something like that together. Hell, I could sell my civic. Buy a mustang. Slap on a few parts and do 12's like nobody's business with some N2O. I guess that's one way to go, but I prefer to do things that are more challenging. Otherwise it's just boring.
Well said, Grey. I share your view, dead on. Mustangs are great for easy power, but not everyone is about ease. Challenge can be a good thing. And I do see the potential from the stang, not a bad car at all if domestic power is the type that he likes. My interest and admiration lies in the suspension mods and cornering capability though.
it all depends on wat you're into.. if its the 1/4mile, i'd just sell the vic and get me a faster car (easy way out, i know). but it seems like you're more into autocross style cuz you got your suspension worked up. so i'd keep the civic, get some internal work done, tune the suspension, and kick some *** on the track

Hrmm dunno man.. tough choice. If it was well taken care of, you could have a really nice car. The after-market support is one of the best out there. The 5.0 has been around for decades and you can get parts all day and night for just about any racing style you choose. Remember many highway patrols used the Stang and are theyre still a great contender in the SCCA circuit. Now if the car is a POS money pit and unreliable, then it may not be worth the time unless you have alot of patience and money. I say buy the Stang and keep the Vic also. Your gonna need to get the parts store anyway right?

well if i kept the civic, and dumped more money into it (its got ground control coilovers, koni yellows, dc sports lower tie bar, rsx sway bar, camber kit, 17" wheels and tires, etc...) i was thinking about doing a true coilover setup, i.e. tein, and try for 1g on the local skidpad. with some drag radials and suspension tuning of course. but you know my car handles pretty well as is, so i wouldnt mine going for some easy, cheap straight line performance. the mustang was sold to my buddy, who has 3 cars now, and he is leaving for college and cant have all the cars sitting around. so he would sell it to me for cheap. i guess it has a mild cam, different intake, and some 3.55 gears and ran a 14.1 on street tires. in my eyes its an easy easy 12 second car with a bit of money. im still deciding (and i found a 99 electron blue SI at the local dealership for sale aaaahhhhh what will i do!) and by the way heres the pic of the vic http://groups.msn.com/Aaronscar/aaronscar.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=1 just cut and paste i dont know why its not letting you directly click on the link
In SCC in 2000 they did a comparo between the Mustang GT and Type R on a auto X style track. Mustang beat it by 5 seconds per lap. Figure how much faster the Type R is than our car, then figure 5 seconds the mustang has on it....IMO,dont was your time with any performance mods on the 2k1's. They product nothing and I have yet to see a 1/4 mile of anything (turbo, Nitrous, SC?, anything) close to a decent new Mustang.
Personally I've come to the conclusion that our cars are good for look but they lack about everywhere else. I love my civic but it'll never be fast so because of that reason I'm saving for a 93 or 94 RX-7 to rebuild and build up because I love the way they handle and look. If I were you i'd either build up the mustang or by another car. Your civic does look good, however!

thanks for the compliments guys...i am thinking about selling all the stuff off the civic (well the rims are for sale...check em out) and keeping it as the grocery getter and bad weather car. the mustang has so much potential i cant wait. i think 12s will be very attainable on a budget. i will keep you guys updated. Merry Christmas!
