Of all days to loose my keys !
I misplaced my keys last night, and this morning my shed cought on fire and burned down
and my civic was sitting about 50 feet away right where all the smoke was blowing...The only key i could find was the valet key and it wouldn't work in the ignition! I'm so pissed, i can't wait to go to the Honda dealer and complain....it was raining pretty hard so i don't think any of the paint burned, but the inside smells real smokey....

yeah, it's odd the valet key wouldn't work. the whole point of that key is to allow valet parking to park you car, without you having to worry about what's in your trunk.
dude ur sooooo totally f**ked up, u need to go over to honda and complain like a mofoker. tell them why da hell did ur valet key f**ked up and didnt start ur ignition.
the chip key is included in the valet because valet keys starts up the ignition, the only thing about it is that you cannot open ur trunk with the valet.

ya and if the valet key was just a bad key and doesnt have a chip in it, it could screw up your ignition, am i right? cause when i got a spare made they told me to be sure i did not use it in the ignition or it would f it up.
i dunno about the screwing ignition part, but all i know is that its because our cars has that immobilizer theft deterrent system. that system protects the car from igniting when the wrong key(not original/valet) was used. i know because when i got the car, i went to walmart same week and made some dups, but the damn key doesnt ignite the car, it works on everything you need a key for, but not for the ignition.

Thats what I was going to say
I know this thread was a while ago, but is it possible to make a duplicate with the chip somehow or from honda to start the ignition with it. What kind of chip is in the key and where?
You can get a copy of your keys at your honda dealer.
I heard its gonna cost around $50(?)
BTW, did anyone fail to notice that the valet key is just slightly thicker than the original? Thats how they cant access the trunk.
Simple but effective.

I have no clue why your valet key did not work,
and I dont think that using your valet key as your
regular key will f**k up anything coz' I've been
using my valet key for a long time now and nothing
out of the ordinary have happened, well I lost one of
my keys a long time ago (3 mos. or longer) and I've
been using since then.
