Hurricane Ridge Photo Shoot
Just updated the pics in my ride profile. . . . after clearing my corners and putting on an OEM lip.
Took the Civi out to the Olympic Peninsula this last Saturday with my friend, Cari. We took the Edmonds to Kingston ferry, drove up to Port Ludlow, Port Townsend (where a classic car show was just getting over so there were classics everywhere!) and then through Port Angeles to Hurricane Ridge. If you've never heard of it or been there, Hurricane Ridge is a mountain peak in the Olympic Mountain Range in Western Washington. You can DRIVE up there! Takes about 30 minutes to get to the top, even at about 30 MPH.
Anyway, we got up to the summit around 7:00 PM, and hiked for a while, took pics, etc. Upon leaving, I made several stops going down the mountain. The highlights of those stops are in my ride profile, along with my car's "Darth Vader" day pic when I was working on the bumper and headlights. Last, but not least, a pic of the ferry trip back to Edmonds at night. . . kind of a cool industrial look to it.
Enjoy!

And if you have any questions about where I took the pics, ask away!

First off. . . thanks for the correction, ohmysac. . . . . I fixed it in my post, too.
Thanks for the props, guys. . . . Most of the exterior is done, with the exception of the rest of the OEM body kit. Probably going to leave the trunk alone. No spoiler for this clean ride. Not that I don't like spoilers. . . just think mine will look tons better without one. To those who wondered. . . Hurricane Ridge sits at about 5200 feet in the Olympic Mountain Range. Western Washington, on the Olympic Peninsula. (Between Puget Sound and the Pacific Ocean) From the ridge, you can take a short hike to one of the many smaller peaks on the ridge, and if you look . . . you can peer south to Mt. Olympus, then turn around and see the Straight to the north. It is ABSOLUTELY breath-taking! If any of you are ever in Washington State, and weather permits, I highly recommend it.
The drive up takes about a half hour. . . average speed (barring any old VW buses
) is between 30-40 MPH. The road twists and turns the whole way up. . . . FUN!!!!!! Along the left side of the road is pretty much where the mountain drops off to the valley. You can look to your left the whole way up and see the other mountians as you climb. Incredible sight. . . especially for those of you who live in the midewest. . . . there's nothing else like it. To the right is mainly sheer ledges and the rest of the mountain. There are three short tunnels on the way up (about 2/3rds of the way) to break the trip up a little. Along the left side of the road there are many turnouts. . . some with paved parking, most are gravel and dirt. Pffft! Forget the pavement! I chose the smaller dirt ones to keep in the theme of actually being ON A MOUNTAIN.
The drive down can be hella fun! If you aren't stuck behind some minivan riding their brakes for 20 miles, you can really lean into some of the turns and actually give her some gas! My 17" rims and Paradas were LOVING it!!! My friend, Cari, commented after we got back down to Port Angeles that she was in love with the sounds coming from the tires in the turns. . . hehe. She's a Jeep owner and loves to off-road. The sound of tuner tires warming-up to some aggressive autocross-style driving was new to her. I have to admit, the hum from those tires was truly inspiring! I highly recommend them!! Average speed going down for us was about 40. . . . and a few of the straightaways we hit 90. . . As you might imagine, there are really no places to put a patrol car on this road. . . MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! I think our time to the base was about 15 minutes. . . not including the half dozen or so stops for these lovely pictures.
At some point I'll get more pics hosted somewhere to share with you all. . . as well as some work in progress shots of more mods. For now, though. . . I wanted to share what I thought was one of the photo ops of the summer, in my book. I'm glad you enjoy them.
